I am trying to install a freeware copy of the latest version of UBB on a new server before transferring my current ubb.

The entire site, including the main docs directory and the cgi-bin, are using a secure server certificate from thawte, so that the correct URL to the cgi-bin is as follow:
https://bullet.lanminds.com:8887/cgi-bin/

When I uploaded the files and set permissions to the new server, I then tried to link from https://bullet.lanminds.com:8887/ubb/cp.html to the general settings page.

I was not able to do so - I got a blank page followed by a window, "a connection failure has occurred."

I checked the permissions and the path to perl. Might there be a problem with the secure server certificate?

More info - when I try to link to general settings from a NS browser, I get the message, "netscape is unable to locate the server cpanel.cgi. Please check the server name and try again." ??

You never edited your cplinks.html.

Open cplinks.html in notepad and look for where it says <BASE HREF="">

make it read <BASE HREF="https://bullet.lanminds.com:8887/cgi-bin/">

I already setup your general variables. You will have to (once you edit cplinks.html) set your forum variables then update threads and change the Admin password.

Also, the path to perl is set to:
#!/usr/bin/perl -w -I (plus the path to modules). Should I set all my cgi files to this path?

Blimey - I changed the sample file, not the right one. It's not the dumbest thing I've ever done, but its up there.
