My favourite on-line forum runs _Ultimate Bulletin Board Version 5.47a_ so hopefully I'm in the right place to ask a technical question about its operation.
One of the users in this forum has an annoying problem that may have been seen by others here. I'm interested in finding out whether he/we can do anything about it or not.
When anyone Replies w/Quote to a Reply w/Quote of his, both his text and that of the person he's replied to is appended in the Your Reply text box. No other user seems to have such problems i.e. when I Reply w/Quote to a Reply w/Quote of any other user, only the most recent text is appended.
Hope you understand...
Bug, configuration or settings related problem?
Many thanks in advance!

Can someone tow this down to v5 Assistance??
I would seriously recommend upgrading to 6.7.1 as there are a number of fixes and enhancements that have been done since 5.47

Quick Reply in versions prior to 6.6 was a modification. Quick Reply w/quote in any version of the UBB is also a modification. This would best be handled in the thread for this modification at UBBDev as it's not an official part of the InfoPop code.

After reading this, this sounds like the designed behavior. You seem to be describing that the forum isn't preventing double quotes.
If Gizmo quotes Ron, he'll have Ron's post in his.
If I then quote Gizmo, I'll also have Ron's post, as it became part of Gizmo's post when he quoted

The problem is that only one user is exhibiting your designed behaviour, Ian, I think. When users Reply w/Quote to all other users' replies, only the most recent reply text is appended. An example: http://www.anfearrua.ie/ubb/Forum28/HTML/000843.html Click Reply w/Quote to clareman's post of 19 May 2004 03:55 PM and see. Click Reply w/Qout to LimerickNomad's post of 19 May 2004 04:00 PM and see the difference.

I am unable to duplicate this behavior on a local copy of 5.47, which implies the board owner has modified the code to stop nested quotes under some circumstances.

[/qb] Charles, You are seeing the behaviour I'm describing in www.anfearrua.ie, however? I'd very much doubt that the admin of this site would know how to disable nested quotes, unless he did it by mistake <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> .
