What does it take to make style image filename changes take effect?!?
I've searched the old topics on this subject, and they never end with a report of success. In fact, most threads end with a final cry for help that goes unanswered.
Look, I've cleared the cache. It's not hard, so don't say I must have not done it right. Most previous threads on this start with this advice and never get any further even when it's reported to not make a difference. My cache permissions are fine. I've cleared and confirmed the cache being cleared multiple times. My web browser cache settings are fine. I've cleared my web browser cache. I've refreshed the page. Nothing works.
The problem is when I change image filenames in my style, the old image still shows. The page is being generated with the old filename somehow. I've had this problem with the 'Lock' thread closed image as well as all the 'UBB Code' buttons. Funny how message icon changes always take effect right away, but any images in the style template give this trouble.
Also, as to why I think all the other people asking this question have given up, this problem seems to resolve itself after a while somehow. The last time when I changed the 'Lock' image, it didn't take effect until a day or two later. I don't know what made it suddenly work, but the new image started showing without any conscious effort from me.
Now, I changed some of my 'UBB Code' image filenames and they won't take effect no matter what I do. I feel foolish just waiting for some mysterious thing to happen to make these changes. Can anyone offer an answer?
Why would, for example, a Post Reply page still be built with the old filenames if it has been changed in the style template? Why would clearing the cache not do a thing and why would simply waiting long enough do the trick?
