With Classic, I was able to set up my main board and a test board--where I could try out new hacks, color schemes, etc.--before launching them on the main board.

I had hoped I could do the same with ubbthreads.

Last night, I installed threads in a DIFFERENT directory than where I set-up the trial version--and I installed it as a "clean deal" (or so I thought).

Yet when I went to create the admin account, it said my name already existed ... and then it pulled up the information I had created with the trial version.

So ... can a separate test site be created--or can only one Threads be running?

I need to know this to plan how to do my board conversion, etc.

Thanks!

You need to be sure you are using a seperate database for each, or at least different custom prefixes (w3t_, addwoff_ ) <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" />

Okay ... is this something that has to be done from the get-go, or can I change it now?

Remember who you're talking to here, Allen.

If you change it now you'll lose your connection to the current database. If you plan to add a site in future, you'll need either another database or a different custom table prefix.

All-righty, I'm trying to get a handle on this ...

When I first install Threads, it asks me for

HOSTNAME: localhost
USERNAME: xxx
PASSWORD: xxxx
DATABASE-NAME: xxx
PREFIX: w3t_

Now, to create a test board separate from my regular site, do I need to use a different custom prefix for EACH section--or is it for just the w3t_ gig?

---

I'm trying to set things up so that I can see whether or not I can convert my classic test site to a threads' test site. I reached step 6--should I have clicked on the database link or not? I did--which may have been a mistake. <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

Anyway, me being the stubborn person that I am, I decided to try out the importer, and I'm getting this message:

[]Warning: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at /home/adwoff/test-ubb/ubbimport.php:3) in /home/adwoff/test-ubb/ubbt.inc.php on line 122
Checking... You entered the wrong path to the members directory [/]

Unless I'm supposed to enter the http://adwoff.com part, I thought I had the path to the members directory correct (I copy & pasted it directly from my transfer program).

I'm almost beginning to think that in order to do this, I need to zap everything I've done with threads and ask my host company to reset the database (if that's possible) and try things again.

I did get the impression that they can only create one database for me. Does that sound right? And if so, then I need to make sure I get this prefix gig down, because I definitely want to test drive things before I work on my main board.

If you want them to both use the same database you set the prefix to be differant between the two.

If you want them to both use differant databases, you set the database to be differant betweenthe two.

As for URL vs Path:
URL: http://www.adwoff.com/test-ubb/
Path: /home/adwoff/test-ubb/

Also, your webhost should have given you access to a utility called PHPMyAdmin whcih will allow you to administer your MySQL Databases; 90% of webhosts that I've been involved in have this installed.
