Version 6.4 beta release 1 has been released to the Member Area
UBB.threadsâ„¢ 6.4 beta release 1 is a test version that adds many popular new features, including these highlights:


Added a new calendar system that can be used for showing public/private events and birthdays.
Added in the ability to delete a group that is no longer needed.
Added in an option when viewing a user's profile to ignore a user.
Added a new option to allow users to select from a predefined set of avatars for their picture.
Added an option when creating/editing a forum to select an image to be displayed next to the forum on the main page.
Moved all thread management tools out of the edit post screen and down to the bottom of showflat/showthreaded.
More work on efficiency. Added a configurable caching system to cache some things that don't change that often.
Polls are entirely rewritten. Polls now can have multiple questions, a start and end time, and other options.

This release is beta code. As with any beta code, it may be unstable. You should not run this beta in a production environment unless you understand the risks involved. Returning to a prior release may prove difficult!

I can download them, but I can't unzip, or untar the files. There's a "bad name error".

I just re-uploaded them, downloaded and unzipped them. Seem to be working ok for me now.

I beleive the 6.3-replies and 6.3 topics altertables were to add the replies and topics back in from 6.2 The 6.4 altertble should be all that needs to be run unless there is something I am missing.

Dave, will the current Classic>Threads converter still work with Threads 6.4? Will I be able to upgrade directly from Classic 6.3 (I believe I could using the last upgrade module)?

Also, is there any chance that the next version of the import module will be able to transfer polls over correctly?

The replies and topics altertables were used in 6.2-6.3.

For this upgrade, you need only run 6.3-6.4. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="images/icons/smile.gif" />

We've got many old polls I want to keep. The're going to lynch me if I remove them.

Is anybody writing a converter for the old polls?

Go Cougs!</font><hr /></blockquote><font size="" face="">I would opt to be safe and not sorry. Upgrade from .classic to 6.3, then to 6.4. I am not yet sure if the polls will import at this time. It is a goal for the import update to do so.

Any chance you all have an estimation of the term of the beta period on 6.4? We are going to do a community transition here in the next couple of weeks from our 6.2.3 and ideally would like to move to .4 if possible. The calendar and avatar banks in particular would be highly useful.

I doubt there is a set schedule.... it usually depends on how things go in beta. It seems very stable, but I *think* there will probably be at least another beta. But I'm guessing.

I'm noticing a lot of bugs that are supposedly fixed in what Mr. Baker calls 6.4b2. Overall for my users it's stable, but they do love to complain about small things... gotta research the search functionality. They say it doesn't go directly to the post the search found the keyword in.

Right again.... Thanks Josh. My users thank you as well, but mostly me because now they'll be off my back. I don't care how much they want a "calendar" feature the next time... I'll test beta outside of production. :-)

Kudos to the person(s) who did the templates for 6.4! I'm in the process of hacking them on my dev site (can't leave well enough alone <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="images/icons/wink.gif" /> ), but so far it doesn't look like I'll have to make too many changes! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="images/icons/smile.gif" />

After almost 2 months, any news for 6.4 final??

Read the current beta bug board. Seems that Rick is still working on a number of bugs. I too really looking forward to see the final release <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="images/icons/smile.gif" />

6.4 b4 is being tested now, by the beta test group.
