UBB.threads 6.3 beta 1 has been released to the member area.

Some of the major highlights -

Version 6.3 beta 1 adds the capability to add or remove languages to the board on the fly, from the control panel. No more script hacking to add or remove a language for your board.
Also added is a language files editor right in the control panel, and a version of JustDave's "my Cookies" has been added to the FAQ to allow users to view and clear troublesome or broken cookies from their browsers.

New Features
</font>
  • <font size="" face="">Moved all text in the administration control panel into language files.</font></li>
  • <font size="" face="">Added ability to edit the language files through the admin section.</font></li>
  • <font size="" face="">Added an option into the admin section to activate/deactivate languages. This allows for easy addition/removal of languages without the need to edit any code or templates.</font></li>
  • <font size="" face="">Added an option to the mass mailer to send out emails one at a time on servers where Bcc mailing does not work.</font></li>
  • <font size="" face="">Added in the last poster for each thread when viewing the postlist screen.</font></li>
  • <font size="" face="">Added a modification of JustDave's "My Cookies" hack, with a template file. This allows users to delete all cookies from a UBB.threads site.</font></li>
  • <font size="" face="">Modified showflat/showthreaded so the Board= portion isn't needed when linking to a post. This will keep bookmarks or links to posts that have been moved from breaking.</font></li>
<font size="" face="">

Updated features, bugs fixed
</font>
  • <font size="" face="">Fixed a bug with linebreaks getting messed up when editing a post under Mac OS 9.</font></li>
  • <font size="" face="">Fixed a SQL error when deleting all traces of a user.</font></li>
  • <font size="" face="">Fixed a sorting bug when viewing the address book.</font></li>
  • <font size="" face="">Fixed a SQL error in addons/ubbttopthreads.php</font></li>
  • <font size="" face="">Fixed a problem with forums not showing on main page when deleting all posts from a user or deleting a user.</font></li>
  • <font size="" face="">Fixed a problem with forums not showing on main page on certain occasions when cron/doexpire is run.</font></li>
  • <font size="" face="">Fixed a bug that would pop up if a post was moved while a user was replying to it.</font></li>
  • <font size="" face="">Fixed a problem with the mass mailer sending out duplicates on some servers.</font></li>
  • <font size="" face="">Fixed a bug that caused the year a user registered not to show.</font></li>
  • <font size="" face="">Fixed a bug with the instant ubbcode when previewing a reply to a private message.</font></li>
  • <font size="" face="">Fixed a bug with the userlist not showing all users properly.</font></li>
  • <font size="" face="">Fixed a bug that was causing the post icon not to show up on the main forum listing.</font></li>
  • <font size="" face="">Fixed a bug when leaving a pointer behind on a moved post made by an anonymous user.</font></li>
  • <font size="" face="">Added in a check to see if a thread is locked before allowing a user to edit their post.</font></li>
  • <font size="" face="">Added in Picture size checks into the printthread script.</font></li>
  • <font size="" face="">Made some changes to showflat to add back in the [Re: Username] next to the subject.</font></li>
  • <font size="" face="">Combined the welcome email in the adduser language file into 1 string instead of 3 seperate strings.</font></li>
  • <font size="" face="">Made some changes to deletepost.php, so when deleting the last post in a thread the last poster would update properly for that thread on the postlist screen.</font></li>
  • <font size="" face="">Modified the banuser function so a user cannot login at all when they are banned. If they are currently logged in they will get a message that they are now banned on the next screen they visit.</font></li>
<font size="" face="">

Rick's entire changelog has been posted at http://community.infopop.net/6/ubb.x?a=tpc&s=729094322&f=3133094913&m=6583080107

This release is beta code. As with any beta code, it may be unstable. You should not run this beta in a production environment unless you understand the risks involved. Returning to a prior release may prove difficult!

sounds like your firewall on your PC is causing that, as the software cannot check the referrer.

Ian is correct. If you are using a firewall or some other anonymizer that is masking your REFERRER then the member area has no way to know that you are actually IN the member area.

Nice!

Does the UBB Classic import script that is presently available in the members area work with 6.3b1 ?

David, 2 things:
1) I guess you missed some on the altertable6.2-6.3. Look it:
---
SQL ERROR: Unable to do_query: SELECT G_Name,G_Id FROM w3t_Groups WHERE G_Disabled <> 1
Unknown column 'G_Disabled' in 'where clause'
Warning: mysql_fetch_array(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL result resource in
----
I realize the colum 'G_Disabled' doesn't exist on w3t_Groups.

2) Months ago I sent to you the /portuguese language files, but looks like you did not use that files on this new version, since the Portuguese files still the old old old ones.
Do you want me to send it again?
For each e-mail?

BTW: that feature to delete cookies is really a good one... <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="images/icons/smile.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="images/icons/smile.gif" />

I just put the new Beta into action and I tried to delete old users...this is what I got? I re-upped the file again from the install folder and still get the same results:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function: get_input() in /forum/admin/confirmpurgeusers.php on line 23

Bug? or am I doing something stupid again?

lol

Thanks!

from the error about get_input I would say that you didn't upload the latest ubbt.inc.php file.... as that function didn't exist in pre 6.2 versions.

Guys, This is the announcement thread. It's really best to report bugs and issues with the BETA release in the BETA Bugs Forum or else they'll get lost and won't get fixed properly. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="images/icons/wink.gif" />

No problem. Just don't want real bugs to get lost where Rick might not see them. When they are posted as new topics, he can track them and label them "fixed" as they are squashed. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="images/icons/smile.gif" />

There is no function to add/configure the character set, so to adding some other languages(like Korean, Japanese) function in option "(De)Activate a language" is useless.

Thoughts on upgrading to this beta version....

I run Threads 6.2.3 and have only been running it for a few weeks. As I look through the fixes and new features that this beta does...it seems like a no brainer to upgrade to this version however, I'm just concerned that since it is still in beta form....if it would be wise for me to run this upgrade now or wait til the final version is realeased.

Thoughts?

Thanks,
Mark

The good news is that the beta periods don't last too long.

You might setup the beta as a test site to play with, and give the upgrade a dry run... especially if you have an active production board. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="images/icons/smile.gif" />

Elton, yes please send it again.

Junhyok, that post would have been better made in the bugs forum, thank you. Good point.

Conrad, yes the same importer will work.

Smokn, read the last line of my announcement again and go from there. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="images/icons/smile.gif" />

Thanks Dave.

Any chance we could take the importer a step further and blow away the competition? (you'd be surprised how far their import modules go!)

The one thing missing from your (Infopop's) importer is the possibility of porting over custom gramelins. If that could be done (shouldn't be too difficult code-wise) then old posts would not be riddled with broken links. Personally I think this would be a great addition that would be very welcome to current Infopop clients who want to move "up" to Threads.

Also, what's the current situation with post icons? Can those be carried over so that all old posts are matched up with their appropriate new icons (or old ones if need be)?

Conrad,

Whilst I understand your comment about the importer, of course the easiest way to stop old posts from having broken images, is simply to copy the images to the same folder as they would have been under the previous forum software.

This will get rid of all your broken images quickly.

Ian,

Fair enough - this would work. But as a user who's upgrading from Classic I think it would make more sense if the import module would convert the links to the new ones. After all, since I'm upgrading I will of course be keeping all my previous graemlins.

That'd be one mega huge process.... particularly if you have a lot of posts to bring over. I bet most users' servers would time out. As it was the 6.2 altertable was pushing it converting user names to numbers.

For new posts, you can add any graemlins and post icons you want.

Conrad - "(shouldn't be too difficult code-wise)"

Actually, making PHP read and parse multi nested perl hashes IS difficult code-wise.

Junhyok - "That's not true.

This has been added and will appear in beta 2.

Actually, making PHP read and parse multi nested perl hashes IS difficult code-wise.

But it wouldn't be so hard to do after all posts have been moved over, or while inserting them in the database depending on how the importer works...

I have a half finished script which is for fixing old links and things like the text on poll buttons made in the old perl version. If anyone is interested I could probably finish it and release it on threadsdev.
