For our good deed of the week this time, Dave, Charles, and I are going to each perform one free UBB.threads upgrade for existing customers. Thus, we are looking for customers on a first-come, first-served basis who want a free upgrade installation. We will only be performing 3 free upgrade installations.
To qualify, you must have a valid UBB.threads license, you must currently have access to the Member Area, and your board must not have any hacked code (this will be a straight install upgrade and we will not account for any modifications to the code).
If you would like to take us up on this limited time offer, please post a reply right here. Do not post your license info here. We will contact you with more info if you are selected.
Doesn't 6.02 contain several flaws that 6.1 will alleviate?
I'm keen for an upgrade but I wouldn't mind waiting another week or so and going directly to 6.1. Does the upgrade offer take into account setting the style of the new board to resemble the old one, including UBB.classic templates?
I'm really keen on this because I honestly don't have the courage right now to upgrade on my own...
I must say I'm really tempted. My upgrade will be quite a challenging one - moving up from UBB.classic and running in a foreign language (supported by Threads). Will the person conducting the upgrade help with the board setup to make it look like my previous board (UBB.classic skins, same message icons and smilies, including custom ones, importing user display names as opposed to logins, etc.)?
For weeks (or is that months) I've been "campaigning" for UBB.classic skins to make Threads look like my old board, so if you could do this for me then that would be absolutely magnificent.
From my side I will purchase a gold membership even before the upgrade commences.
I should jump at this. I can't find time to sleep the way business is going. Only problem is I have modified the version I run so much and have worked out all the minor bugs that I would have to start all over again.
Ted, I think a lot of what you refer to as "custom work" should be automatically taken care of by your Classic-to-Threads import module.
Personally I find it unacceptable that vBulletin's importer from Classic to vB goes way further than Infopop's own. Maybe if Infopop put in the effort to make the import module at least on par with the competition then the upgrade process would be a normal one.
As it stands there is too much confusion, too much meddling with the code, and even totally illogical moves such as importing login names as opposed to display names. I find it concerning that you would compromise private data so readily: login names (if separate from display names) are supposed to be confidential.
You must be misinterpreting me. The offer is/was for an upgrade of an existing UBB.threads board only... not a conversion from UBB.classic (a wholely deifferent animal). Please stay on topic.
Let me make something clear here: we (Infopop) do not do free upgrade installations. Dave, Charles and I offered to do this (on our own time) for 3 customers. Please do not turn an act of charity on our part into a diatribe against what we "should" be doing.
This topic is about one thing: the three of us want to do something nice on our own time for 3 customers. Why is that so hard to understand?
Sorry, I thought that you were offering upgrades to Threads for shipwrecked UBB Classic users. My mistake for misinterpreting and overestimating your "act of charity."
Nonetheless, the points I raised remain just as valid today as they were when I first brought them up a few months back. Nothing has happened, nothing has changed. It makes me think Infopop is like a ship that's drifting on its own without a captain on board...
Assuming you dont already have 3 boards being upgraded, i'd go for an upgrade. (My license is still current and i'm currently running 5.5.1 but sorta waiting on 6.1) If its still available my site is www.clubsi.com (forums are at forums.clubsi.com) and the only "custom" code is the header insert that will stay the same (copy and paste to the new header insert). Email me at siracer % comcast net if its still an open offer. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="images/icons/grin.gif" />
And Samoan J, same thing but title yours to Charles instead.
Both please include your license numbers (not license passwords!) and we'll go from there <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="images/icons/smile.gif" />
Hmm, you're replying to an offer that is many months closed. Happens now and again. I think I'll put the padlock on this thread so the next person doesn't do the same thing.
