When creating a global announcement it would be nice to specify a date when it will expire and return to "a normal" post. Sometimes I need to alert everyone of an EVENT and after the event has passed I wouldn't have to go back to the post to demote it.

Neat idea, one problem as I see it. This would add to the load, as it would have to check every pageview.

But, a cron job to auto expire at say 3:00 am would be good.

Yes, could be added to the doexpire cron. Another hack I've done to doexpire cron script in the past - is to expire the "pointers" from moved posts after X number of days so they aren't cluttered about. <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
