We just moved our board (6.7.2) to a new server/host. Everything seems ok operationally, except that the board doesn't remember/keep you logged in between sessions.
I have read this post on the same issue, but I don't believe this is my problem. The configuration uses our domain name, not the IP address. Checking the contents of "vars_config.cgi" also shows the domain, not the IP address.
Have you ruled out the possibility of this being a browser issue by testing with different browsers/computers?
I tested this by registering a username (InfopopKate - feel free to delete me if you'd like!) and logging in, shutting down my browser, then opening it back up & visiting your URL - it remembered me...
What browser/version are you using? Do you have cookies enabled?
This is happening to a number of people (both inside and outside the company). We switched hosts and moved the UBB, so we are all using the same computers and settings as we did a few days ago, where the UBB did remember things.
Interestingly, if I manually type in the link above, my browser remembers my login and all the post indicators are correct. However, if I just go to the site's main page and follow the menu to the UBB, it doesn't. I'm now thinking perhaps it is a server setting for ASP pages that needs to be tweeked?
When you say the UBB remembered you, how did you get there, from the link above or from www.coade.com?
From the link, the first time - you're right - I just tried going there from coade.com, and it didn't remember me...
Okay, so that's strange - I can't quite put my finger on what would cause that, and ASP is a little over my head... Our developer might be able to tell you - I'll make sure he sees this...
Aha - I just noticed something! You're running the board in the frame of the ASP page: that's the issue... In fact, when I go to visit the board inside it's frame and log in, it doesn't even properly log me in... The frames are interfering with the cookies... May I suggest you run the board without the ASP frame?
We still haven't figured out what is wrong here. Maybe it is something with the ASP pages under Win2003 server, but these same pages worked fine at the other Host under Win2000 server.
Here is something interesting:
- Go to the forum via the main web site "www.coade.com". Note the UBB doesn't remember the login.
- Login. Note the UBB doesn't remember the post indicators.
- Click on "my profile", but don't pick anything on the resulting screen. Now hit the [back] button on your mouse or in Explorer's menu.
- Poof, you're back to the forum and UBB remembers the post indicators.
The UBB is writing cookies, so that doesn't appear to be the problem.
ASP frames are not the problem. As I stated above, we moved the site from one host to another. There were no changes made to the site. The biggest unknown was the jump from Win2000 server to Win2003 server.
We did find the problem, it was a hard coded IP address in one of our ASP pages. For testing on the new host, we did set the paths and URLs to the IP address of the new server. Once we were satisfied the new site worked, we changed the DNS pointer, and a day later I changed the UBB control panel from IP addresses to our domain name. I was unaware of the IP address in the ASP page, since our local copy used the domain name.
Problem solved, and the answer was the thread referenced above in my first post.
Glad to hear you fixed it... You should be aware that we *don't* support frames, though - but since it's working now, I guess you're good to go. <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />
