I have an active messageboard with about 220 posts per day. This morning I woke up and my board didn't work. What shows up on the page is:
"CGI Error The specified CGI application misbehaved by not returning a complete set of HTTP headers."
The same thing shows up when I try running the hello.cgi file.
I tried contacting my web host about 6 hours ago, but have not heard back.
Can someone confirm if this a problem with something on the server (and having to do with my web host)? Or is it something I can fix at my end?
Thanks!
Sashi

Check out your error_log and see what it is reporting. That will give you some clues as to what is happening.

I looked all over, and I also looked through the Administrators manual and couldn't find an error_log. Could you tell me where to look?
BTW, I'm running UBB Classic 6.7.2 on a Windows server.

I was assuming you were on Linux. My bad. I cannot remember where CGI errors are logged on a Windows server.

9 hours after I reported the problem to our web host, they responded back with:
"This has been fixed, there was some kind of IIS related problem that required a server restart to fix."
It is working now.

Oh. I see that you just responded, Ron. Sorry, we crossed in cyberspace.
I am not happy with this web host. They had a bad crash in November and lost our entire board. (Normally I back up every couple of days, but I was on vacation.) I was also not happy today with how long it took them to get back to me -- especially for a problem that they caused. I am going to be moving our board ASAP.
Could you tell me, is it better to run UBB Classic on a Linux server?

Ah. Thank you, Gizmo. Previously I did research about where to move to if it came to that. It seems like now we are finally at that point. So I just set up an information page, and sent e-mails to all my members as to where to get current updates over the next 48 hours as we move. The new web host has both Windows and Linux available. I will sign us up with a Linux server.
Thank you very much. <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Thank you Ron. I did that, and the move worked 90% fine. I'll go over to the Installation forum and post about the part that isn't fine.
