Currently there is no setting for this in the config, it takes a modification to either the header.tpl file or the libs/ubthreads.inc.php. I'll take a look as soon as I get a chance. On the wife's computer right now so don't have access to the code, and my memory isn't that great

i used a wide .png to get it to the width that made me happy. no matter what i tried with mods an iframe we had inside the left side bar would not behave.

a 1 pixel high transparent gif to the width of your required sidebar would also work.

a 1 pixel high transparent gif to the width of your required sidebar would also work. My recommendation exactly but would this be guaranteed to always work? for instance, in the event a graphic was displayed within the sidebar table that was wider than the width set by the 1 pixel gif? anyway, i've got around this issue by explicitly setting the width of advertising graphics in each of the sidebars (ie, in the custom islands).

the sidebar should streach to meet the requirement of the gif as long as you specify the image in the island itself.

surely it is easier to change the 15% in the inc file to say 20% - or even a fixed figure (and not a percentage), so they remained constant on all occasions.

don't you need to still alter the html? However I realise you mean the core code.

You con' thave to edit any core-code, just edit one of the islands on either side of the bar templates (which aren't updated in the upgrade process) to include an image, itd be nonnoticeable, and you woudln't be hacking any core-code that could invalidate your right to tech support.
