I knew how to do this in 6.7.3, but I cannot find how to make the forums only visible to logged in users and to go to the login page if the user is not logged in and tries to view the forums.
THanks for any help.

If users don't have access to forums they won't ever see the forums in UBB.T7

Maybe I'm not asking this correctly.
In my new UBB.T7 installation, if I log out, I still see the forums and can read them, but can't post. I'd like it so that user who aren't logged in won't even see the forums list, but the login page. Maybe I missed something in the setup but...

Edit every forum and set the "guest" attribute to "none" vs "can read"

Of course, by doing that, you're also excluding search engines. But perhaps that's what you want if it's a sensitive topic or something...

not a good idea IMHO - personally I tend not to sign up to sites that I cannot see the content of beforehand. But that is my own personal thoughts - and if it works for a site then good luck

Thanks everyone. That's exactly what I needed. This is a private BBS so search engines aren't a problem.

You know... I'm still having an issue. In v6 if you weren't logged in, it automatically redirected you to the login page. Now, I did the permissions thing above and it just shows the forums list and says "You have no forums to view". Is there any way to have it automatically redirect to the login screen if the user isn't logged in?
Thanks again for your replies!

What you may want to do in the mean time is edit your language file to ADD underneath something like "Click Here to Log In" so it's more prominent...

The exact verbiage is: "We cannot proceed. There are no forums for you to view." Sorry for the vagueness in the previous post.

Also, I am a VB programmer, and know nothing about PHP, but if there's a way to edit the file that shows that particular message to redirect to the login page, that would be the best answer. Is there a way to do that with PHP?

I changed the default page to the "ubbthreads.php?ubb=login" string and it seems to do what I need initially. If the user is logged in it goes to the forums, and if not it shows the login page. The final thing would be to somehow still make it go the the login page after the user logs out or whenever the "We cannot proceed. There are no forums for you to view." message appears.

You were too quick for me. Going straight to the login page is a good solution for you I suppose. ------------------ The exact verbiage is: "We cannot proceed. There are no forums for you to view." Sorry for the vagueness in the previous post. Okay, then. You should be able to edit the NO_FORUMS key in cfrm.php via the language editor a link to the login page. Something like this: There are no forums for you to view.<BR /><BR /> Please <a href="/ubbthreads.php?ubb=newuser">register</a> or <a href="/ubbthreads.php?ubb=login">login</a>... Hopefully those links will work okay - give it a shot... In order to automatically go to the login page would be tricky, because you'd have to check, first, to be sure that no forums are viewable to guests.... unless there's another way I can't think of...

You could edit the language file, particularly the cfrm.php language file. The NO_FORUMS one is what contains this message, you can change it to add a link or reword it.

That is the coolest thing that language editor!
Thanks folks. That gets me almost there. If anyone can think of how to redirect automatically, that would be the ultimate, but until then, this is great! Thanks!
What a cool BBS! The customize features are unsurpassed!

Just a note for anyone wanting to edit a string. The language editor in the Control Panel allows you to edit any text string; if you know what you're looking for you can even search for specific strings in the language editor.

One more item... it looks as if the cookies aren't persisting when I redirect to the login page as the inde page. Any ideas there?
Example, I log in, and say "remember me" then close the browser... opent he browser and open our BBS and in takes me to the login page again. If I am logged in, it goes through the login page then to the main forums page without user input.

are you logging in from a differant domain than what's set as your forum default? for example, Login as: http://yoursite.tldWhere the forum url set in the config is: http://www.yoursite.tld

Nope, same domain.
Actually, I just noticed that while it's not redirecting to the main page from the login page, it's actually still logged in. The Welcome shows logged in and I still have access to everything, it's just the redirect that isn't making it.
Does it always check the users status on the login page?
