How about a checkbox on the advanced search, to only display one result per thread, if there are multiple hits within its replies? And maybe a little red (4) number next to it, showing how many hits in that thread? I dunno, call it a thread search? The number of hits within a given thread, SHOULD show you how on target that discussion is, with what you are looking for as well, and could weigh in on the order of the results. Right now, I just found it a PITA when I searched for help here, and the first two pages of results, were ALL from the same thread. (and not what I was looking for) What do you think? Good idea?

I'm not sure, the system right now is fairly basic and i think it gives you a preview of the thread; to combine the information would remove the ability to preview the post, and would make things much more complicated in reguards to the coding itself

No, the system's results are pretty useless, is what they are. I'll let the suggestion stand for Rick. The search routine will already be returning the topic number. To summ up, and only show the first reply in a given topic under preview, wouldn't be that hard.

Well, if you've database dived you'd understand what I'm talking about...
It doesn't really look at the topics table, it simply does a search of the posts table and returns any results; hence why you can see multiple results of the same thread. There is noting really in the topics table, just simply some basic information on the first post which is in the posts table itself.

Yeah, but, with all due respect, that's the lazy way out of the code. Send a search to the DB, and post the results? What happened to "Advanced Search"... in other words, some intelligence added to the technique. Anyone can hit a database with a hammer...
