I'm still running UBB Classic 6.7.2 but I am an administrator on a Threads 7.1.1 board.

I'm not going to turn this into a rant, but I cannot for the life of me see how Threads is an improvement over classic, particularly when in comes to handling members.

My question is: How do you set up Threads to mark posts when they are edited by members? This was (is) very easy to do in Classic. I can find no provision for doing this in Threads. In appears to be a member option. I would like to remove that option and have all edited posts marked as such. (In Classic you could even give the member a few minutes "lag time" to edit misspellings and the like, before a post was marked as "edited". Is that possible in Threads?)

Thank you.

mark posts when they are edited by members?

Click on edit post. Option is in there.

In classic you couldnt prevent it from showing.

The lag time no, but they can just untick the edited by
box and then it wont show.

Hi guys,
I think his point, Mark, is that users are able to decide for themselves, whether or not their posts are labelled "edited by user at **.**pm" or not.

HDS would prefer (I think) that their posts were 'forcibly' stamped as edited, if they do in fact edit said post after a certain time frame.

there is a lag time (mark, he worded it odd); in threads you can set the edit post timer limit to a specific period.

As for alwasys showing the edited by notice; you can do this by hacking the template file for the edit post page; however you'll need to be versed in HTML to understand it.

Sorry for the confusion. Yes, I mean a forcible marking of edited posts.

Some of us use that feature to keep members from backtracking to a post, editing out unfavorable or untrue comments, then returning to shout, "I never said that!" I won't prohibit a member from editing a post, but if any questions arise, it will at least be noted that the post was tampered with.

A hack??? Gee whiz. Again on the Classic board, it's just a matter of choosing a setting in the "Feature Permissions" category on the Control Panel. As follows:

***
Message Editing Permissions:

Users may edit & delete messages
Users may only edit messages
Users may not edit or delete messages

Message Editing Time Limit:
Time in minutes in which users may edit posted messages.
0 = no limit.
minutes

Mark Messages Edited by Users?:

Edit Message Grace Period:
Edited notice will not appear until this many minutes elapse. Set to zero to disable.
****

All these conveniences are now replaced by a hack????

Thank you for your help, but this "Threads" product does not show improvement over "Classic". In this area, it is a downgrade not an upgrade.

I point you to the other thread where i explain why not all features from both products are in threads7 YET...

As for most of the things you miss, several can easily be hacked in should you want that behavior back RIGHT NOW...
