Sweet program and lots of new bells and whisltes on the new CS3 but not so sure I'm going to buy that upgrade. CS2 is working fine and they really don't give much discount for previous buyers. I updated to the 2.3 just a few months ago and I get SQUAT price reduction for it. There is also no real work done on Fireworks to be integrated with the rest of the suite (though they did work on more compatiblilty for PS to read the Fireworks files better but not the other way.) Also some missing pieces in Premiere that people were hoping for, so all in all with a $1,300+ UPGRADE price I think I'll be waiting for another version release.
Well, I guess I'm coming at it from a different perspective. We have a home-based company and we use a lot of software. Until Macromedia was bought out by Adobe, we were paying for upgrades for both Macromedia Studio and Adobe Photoshop. Now with CS3, we just pay one upgrade price. We don't get every upgrade, but certainly every second one, because if we leave it any longer than that, we don't qualify for the upgrade price. With CS3, we heavily use Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Fireworks, Flash, and Acrobat. To us, $499 is well worth it.
We also use Captivate, but seeing as it's not included in the CS3 package, it costs us as much to upgrade that as it does the entire CS3 package - so that's very irritating.
We use other software for our business too, and yearly maintenance costs are a norm. The main product we use (OutStart Trainer) costs nearly $4,000, but the yearly maintenance cost is $500. That entitles us to support and free upgrades/new releases. Again - well worth it to us.
We're getting there, Mark. It's an e-learning business we started about 2 years ago. Currently we have enough work for my husband to work at it full-time, and myself part-time. Our goal is to get enough business for me to leave my job and work at it full-time too. We're getting there, but slowly - mainly relying on word-of-mouth.
We currently have a major client in England. Real nice people too.
So I guess I don't understand why you have to pay $1300 + upgrade price then.
Because I want to upgrade to the Master set (Premiere, etc...) I have almost all of them now as separate so wanted an integrated unit but too expensive and VERY little reduction in price for a previous customer [just bought the 2.3 upgrade couple months ago] Nope ANYONE with Photoshop CS1 can buy the MASTER set for same price I can (well close to they may need another item, but you get the idea.
Maybe when it's CS4 and I start saving now with the intent of being gouged next year
BTW, IE shows alt text as firefox shows the "title' tag; if you're goin to provide the ammount of unread messages you really should show it in the title tag as well.
This will count the actual total number of new replies you haven't read. There is one bug I'm fixing in this area that might be related. However, just an FYI. If you have 2 new replies in 1 private topic, it will show 2.
