We're considering adding a load balancer (hardware) to our configuration. However I'm worried that this may not work well with UBBt. Does anyone have experience/advice?

Currently, about the best you can do is have the database on it's own server. This is what generates the most overhead, as the scripts themselves are pretty lean.

What we should probably do for 7.3, is put in an option for a master / slave database configuration. That would probably be the biggest boost. Basically, a flag where anything that updates the database would connect to the master, but anything that just needs to read would connect to the slave.

What exactly is the hardware your considering adding at this point?

I'm not worried (at the moment) about the database. It's the Apache side that's becoming an issue.

I'm concerned that if I clone ubbt on two servers that there will be continuity/session issues visible to users? If not then that will work for me.

The only issue I could see with that is all of the generated text files might become a problem. You'd need to keep them synced (stylesheets, images, config file changes, etc).

Thanks. Since this is 6.5.5 and we're not updating things I don't think synch will be a problem. (It will be a pain, but not a problem.)
