I have a member who was a moderator of just one of my forums before import from Classic to Threads.
Now, I don't want him to have moderator status anymore. Although he's not ID'd as a moderator in CP, his title on the board still identifies him as a "Moderator". His name does not show in a different color like the other mods.
No matter what I try, I can't get rid of his moderator title.
What could I be missing to change is title?
Thanks for any tips.

Check his profile in Member Management. It might have transferred across as a custom title.

Personally if that how you feel about that ex moderator i would.
Become that member. Check there watch lists for hidden forum subscriptions.
Check the control panel for that members status, check in there profile there permissions list as somthing may be selected when shouldn't be.
After all that, something not right and should be investigated further as its not right.
Hope that helps?

Thanks. Checked his profile, no custom title.
Became him and checked for any watch lists or hidden forum subs. Nothing.
I thought I remember there being some kind of bug regarding mods/admins adjusting their custom titles. Maybe that is effecting this somehow?

No "M" flag.
Just "Moderator" as the title.
There's no custom title showing up in CP in his profile. Would I have to manually edit his member file somehow? I'm familiar with how to do it with Classic, but not with Threads.

This sounds like the importer populated the post based title field. Will need to get that fixed.
You might just reset your post titles Mitch. In the control panel under post titles, you'll see a checkbox where it recalculates everyone's post based title. If you check that and submit it will go through each of your users and make sure they have the proper post based title for the number of posts they have.
