I'd like to see a Reviewer Forums feature added to threads... In this, users would be able to review products/scripts/movies, whatever strikes their fancy.
I don't think it'd be too hard, have a few boxes (like the edited message) that drop in some default items: 1. Title 2. Creator 3. Review (1-5 stars/whatever) 4. Price 5. Misc (will hold miscelanious information that isn't really related to the review; such as statistics, startup times, comments, etc)
Then the review

How about (registered) users can add their vote to the weight of the review. So that a five star review would come down to 3stars if someone disagreed. (Perhaps optionally switchable in CP ?)

that just comes down to custom message forms where you could decide how many fields you want. The only issue I can see id that you might need those in different DB fields to allow for indexing.

Reviews? Yes I'm interested.
I have some forums that I want to create when the Gallery release is available. I would like the ability for reviews to be added to these forums at some point.

See, I dont think "users" should effect the publisher's review; it'd be skewed if i voted it 5/5 and someone came in and voted it a 1 because it's not a linux application... Then MY review on the topic wouldn't reflect what I initially posted...
If anything, users looking at the item could use the "topic rating" option to rate the product elsewhere (or my post in general)

If it was a dedicated review forum, wouldnt you insist on a reason for the rating?
This way you could decide if its a legit reason for say a number 1?
After all the likes of amazon etc hold your review until checked?

Yes, places like Amazon stick the "reviewers" rating to always display, then also take what users have to say and their rating into account as a seperate rating average.

See, I dont think "users" should effect the publisher's review; That's a good point, but each review would *always* display the reviewers comments - and 'their' star rating. Each following reviewers comments and star rating would also be displayed. Only at the end - or at the top of page would there be an average rating.

Yeh, I was thinking that there could be an "overall tally", and each users "vote" could appear in the subject bar to the left of "RE: Subject" and they could do an independant review on the topic...
Probably going way overboard here, but still :X...

Very good idea. The "rating" portion would probably be handled in 2 groups. The actual rating by the reviewer, and then a rating by the people responding to the review. So the reviewer might give it a 5, the responders might only give it a 2, but it wouldn't effect the initial reviewers rating.
