My users would probably explode with excitement if they could search their PMs, particularly if it were somehow linked with the delete function in a way that would allow them to prune their inboxes selectively.

Agreed. I think a PM search inclusion would be great. It should be limited to only the PMs of the currently logged on user (except that again an option for Admins to search them as well for all members) After all it's not a private posting when you post on the Internet and you have to assume that someone else can read it. Just makes it easier than having to whip out a MySQL tool to do it.
Maybe even some of the security enhancements slated for 7.3 would fit in nice here.

agreed, I keep a lot of client emails at various sites, if I where to be able to just type in some text that I know will bring up what I'm scouring 200+ messages for (again, over various sites) it'd be a life saver...
