Hi, I am thinking about offering local clubs a simple site that they can upload a basic website to. I am assuming that this would be CMS software. Can anyone suggest anything suitable? I no nothing about most things and even less about CMS - so any suggestions would be greatful. Of course if it isn't CMS, then please suggest what I should be looking for? Many thanks.

Well Joomla is pretty good. But if it's just very basic stuff then maybe something like WordPress http://joomla.org/For blogging but pretty nice for users if you have very limited needs. http://wordpress.com/

Joomla & Mambo are pretty much the same thing - but they have a 'bugger' of a steep learning curve. (You'd have to be well versed in them, for when the 'help me' eamils come flooding in. phpnuke & postnuke are much of a muchness although I think slightly easier to handle than Joomla & co. Have you been to CMS Matrix ?

I think CMS might be an overkill to be honest - need some sort of basic system that I can use a template with. I guess to produce a simple system like moonfruit or similar. Might even be some sort of specialist software out there - will continue the hunt Thanks anyway.

Maybe google apps. https://www.google.com/a/org/Page creator might be what you're looking for.

Well Wordpress even though it is for blogging can handle a lot of stuff interactive users would want anyways and it seems MUCH easier to setup and use than CMS

You know, I used to love the idea of wordpress; but their anti-www coding in the multiple user version totally turned me off... And theres no way to disable the damned thing... it's coded into so many places it's impossible! It's like, excuse me if i want to use the "www" subdomain on MY site, and allow users urls off of that... I'm sorry, www.mysite.tld/blogs/username sounds and looks better than mysite.tld/blogs/username :cries to self:
