I switched hosts a few months ago. All has gone well, but I could use some help in how to best manage my stats program.
Tonight, I was having load issues with my board -- and through some help -- finally realized my stats program was running and eating up major CPU.
1. If I want a down and dirty stats package (hits, page views, uniques) which is best to run that uses the least resources? I can choose from: - analog - awstats (running now) - webalizer
2. Are there any tricks/tips to setting it to run to use the least resources? I'm new at this, as my old host took care of all of the stats.
3. How often do the stats need to be run? Daily, weekly, monthly?
For my server, I have access to cPanel X v2.6.0
Below are stats on my server: Operating system: Linux Apache version: 1.3.37 (Unix) PHP version: 5.2.3 MySQL version: 5.0.27

I myself use awstats, and wouldn't use anything other than it; for me it suits my needs to a "t" but i've not had these major cpu issues you're saying you have... though i have mine set to update just before the logs rotate every week...

I've used both Webalizer and Analog, and I must say, I prefer AWStats

Each has a couple views, items the other doesn't. Shouldn't bother your site too much to run it once in a while. Doesn't need to scan and scour all the time.

Trying to deal with my stats package seems more trouble than it's worth for now. Until I tame it, I'm going to use Google Analytics.
