Does anyone have step by step information on how to install an update (like DUMMIES guide book).
This is the type of information I need:
Step 1 download file
Step 2 upload file to server
Step 3 open file (what command)
So on and so on.
I am worried that I will stuff it up if I do the update (the manual is hard to understand).

On a minor release such as the 7.2 -> 7.2.1 upgrade it's fairly simple.
Download the zip file. Extract it. Close your forum. Upload the entire install directory and also the libs/ubbthreads.inc.php file.
Browse to install/upgrade.php on your forums and enter your username/password. You'll get a list on that screen of what files you need to upload, there are only a handful. Once you have them uploaded, continue through the rest of the upgrade script. Once it's complete, remove the entire install directory.

Rick,
Ok I have downloaded the zip file and extracted them into a folder (on my PC) to upload.
Where do I upload the files to (which directory on server?)
Sorry but I am really worried about stuffing it all up as I have never done it before. That is why I requested a dummies guide for the upgrade.
It is easy for people that do it all the time but not so easy for a first timer.

When you ftp into your site, you'll need to find a directory called forum/ Once you go in there, you'll upload the install directory directly into that folder. Then go into the libs directory, on both your server and your local harddrive, and upload the ubbthreads.inc.php file. At that point it will list the rest of the files you'll want to upload, and it's just a matter of going into that directory on both the server and your local computer and uploading them. Hopefully that makes a bit more sense

If you don't feel comfortable with upgrading it yourself, you can always hire a professional (or me) to do it for you

Rick,
Ok I have uploaded the folder called install and then I have gone to the lib folder and uploaded the ubbthreads.inc.php file.
But where do I see the rest of the files that I need to upload?
Nothing happened.

Sirdude,
I had to take out the (s) as my directory is forum.
Now I get this message:
Warning: ini_set() has been disabled for security reasons in e:\inetpub\esvc000537\forum\install\upgrade.php on line 31
Warning: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at e:\inetpub\esvc000537\forum\install\upgrade.php:31) in e:\inetpub\esvc000537\forum\libs\ubbthreads.inc.php on line 52 . $var_start . implode( $var_sep, $new_url ) . $anchor; } ?>

put a '//' in front of line 31 in upgrade.php no quote.. that will comment out the call to ini_set.. that should kill the 1st warning and then not get the headers sent warning... i think

When you access install/upgrade.php it should referance what files are "new" files that need to be uploaded. (I don't like this upgrade route, just fyi if anyone cares lol)

This is the message at the top of UBB logo . $var_start . implode( $var_sep, $new_url ) . $anchor; } ?>
Then I get this message underneath in the UBB.threadsâ„¢ Upgrade/Install Utility
This upgrade has been completed. Please remove the entire install directory

So what in your opinion was the main reason for the failure in the first place?
Might help other new users when they go to upgrade.

ntdoc,
I think with the upgrade procedure it should list in bullet points(sequence) for the Dummies like me.
Especially when the install file should be removed from the server.
Sorry but for a newbie to this it is very worrying about installing updates (especially for the first time).
If you can use the KISS principal it would be great for new people.
The knowledge base of the forum is a great help but maybe you could have a forum for people that have limited experience with PC language, so that they can understand as we are not as smart as you guy's.
