I had a spare day off work today as i'm off to see Rush tonight, so i thought why not finally get round to upgrading my BB to 7.2.2 - something i've been putting off for ages.

Anyway, the new install and migration from threads 6.5.3 went as smooth as anything (many thanks go to Gizmo's excellent post on the subject).

Anyway, my new forum is back to the basic default look and feel - i'd quite like to bolt on wizzy things that i see here (the calendar, who's online, recent topics and top posters) but i dont know where to start.
My upgraded forum is sitting here as i've not had chance to redirect and sort out the other domain forwarding.

I'm not a newbie, but have been very hands off for the last year or so, so please be gentle with me

Try having a play around with the portal settings.

Control Panel > Portal > Portal Settings

Acivate the portal then go to portal layout and add islands there

This site is a completely stock install of UBB.Threads7; the sidebar items are all done through the portal settings as Driv stated.

If you're looking for styles, both UBBDev and here have various free styles available; if you're looking to contract someone to make a style for your site there are several people (including myself) available for such services ;), and some have commercial themes available.

Cheers chaps, i'll have a tinker this weekend (as i'd planned to keep the site down for the weekend expecting the upgrade to take ages).

As an aside (having now looked at portals) how do i get a recent posts portal? I presume its a custom jobbie?

Just set them up via Post Islands in the Control Panel navigation

Yeh, you need to configure Post Islands then set that post island in your portal settings.
