I worked out how to remove the "quote" button from beneath all the posts on my board, but I couldn't find out how to remove "quick quote" and leave "quick reply" intact. Could someone point me in the right direction please?

post_side.tpl and post_top.tpl are the templates that place the buttons on screen. So you would have to look into editing those.

please note that post_side.tpl was added in 7.2.2, so if you're running something older, don't get worried that you can't find it.

... and if you can't find it, then look @ showflat.tpl for earlier versions

It might have been useful to mention I'm on 7.2.2, LOL. It's not so much that I'm a clean UI freak (though I am), but because if the buttons aren't there it's SO much harder for people to quote after quote after quote, where you end up with 7 nested quotes -- or more! When you're on limited bandwidth smaller pages are good.

I would just love an option where you can limit the amount of nested quotes. Quote in quote, ok, quote in quote quote, no way hosee!

I would too!
I requested it once before... should show under my post history.
Maybe one day I'll have a stab at some JavaScript to do it.

No need for javascript, it would be simply a regex in the code that handles the markup, that would give an error when quote level is X deep.

It'd be even better if there was a cp setting so that you could choose the quote level allowed, and then it simply deleted the inner-most quotes to match the allowed level. Default setting on that should be 1...

I would not opt for just deleting it, I would opt for giving an error message.
