I'd quite like to add an area where users can upload and download documents / files. Be able to categorise them and view what is available.
Is this possible within UBBThreads?
I dont really want to go down the CMS route if possible as i'd quite like to have it neatly integrated with my existing forums.

Sure, make a forum, with sub-forums; and enable attachments in them all... This will allow you to also allow users to comment on files.
