In classic I could just go to the member folder and view the users info and password if they forgot or something, what is the process in threads? I know you can send a temporary password from group management, but I would like access to the actual files. Thanks, Tim

Passwords are stored in an MD5 hash in threads; thus it can't be "recovered" it can only be "reset"

What exactly are you trying to do? Help a member?

Usually what I do is "become" the member, go into his profile and manually set his password and let him know what it is. For whatever reason, people have trouble with the "temp" password that gets emailed to them and need some hand holding. I usually give them a really easy password, or one they request.

I will give that a try. Thanks, Tim

By the way, I think this is kind of weird.... I put a 'teaser' forum outside the login to explain some of our recent problems (read only, the sex spammers found me in a matter of moments when I left it 'read-reply')and the logins dropped to nothing overnite, it seems everyone thought that was the only forum available and didn't look around to login????

That can definitely happen. If people only see one forum, then they may think it's a small or new board. Usually if you go that route, then you can use the Community Introduction box to explain that more forums are available once they register and login.
