After clicking "creating database tables" link, the script fails with the error "Warning: Failed opening 'http://192.168.0.5/ubbthreads/ubbt.inc.php' for inclusion (include_path='.;c:\php4\pear') in c:\inetpub\wwwroot\ubbhreads\main.inc.php on line 8"
Server = WinNT2000 advanced server, local LAN, mySQL, PHP 4.2.2, black shirt, blue jeans (not sure what other info is req'd)
Win2k Advanced... hmmm - not had much luck with that one yet..
Okay - when I look for the server it's not there anymore so I presume that it was taken down.
However, when you bring it back up have a look at a couple of things.
1) Make sure that you have PHP mapped to the .exe and not the .dll -> I know that the .dll is tempting but it does not work well.
2) When you put your absolute paths in make sure that you replace any path seperators '\' with '/' instead or it will fall over <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="images/icons/smile.gif" />
After upgrading from 6.0 to the current beta, I also get the following error whenever I try to access the board:
<pre>Warning: Failed opening 'c:/inetpub/wwwroot/ubbthreads/languages/english/generic.php' for inclusion (include_path='.;c:\php\includes') in c:\inetpub\wwwroot\ubbthreads\ubbt.inc.php on line 139</pre>
I get this error regardless of using '\' or '/' in the absolute path for the $thispath variable.
Any ideas? The board was working fine before copying the latest files across.
I am having a very similar problem installing the trial version on a Linux server running PHP 4.1.2 or 4.1.3 (can't quite remember for sure). Everything looks OK until step 6, then I get the following set of error messages. Is something missing on the server that needs to be installed, like library files, or is something else wrong?
Warning: Failed opening '/config.inc.php' for inclusion (include_path='.:/usr/local/lib/php') in /www/htdocs/thearma/ubbthreads/ubbt.inc.php on line 23
Warning: Failed opening '/mysql.inc.php' for inclusion (include_path='.:/usr/local/lib/php') in /www/htdocs/thearma/ubbthreads/ubbt.inc.php on line 24
Warning: Failed opening '/theme.inc.php' for inclusion (include_path='.:/usr/local/lib/php') in /www/htdocs/thearma/ubbthreads/ubbt.inc.php on line 25
Warning: Failed opening '/languages//generic.php' for inclusion (include_path='.:/usr/local/lib/php') in /www/htdocs/thearma/ubbthreads/ubbt.inc.php on line 98
Fatal error: Cannot instantiate non-existent class: sql in /www/htdocs/thearma/ubbthreads/ubbt.inc.php on line 99
Fatal error: Call to a member function on a non-object in /www/htdocs/thearma/ubbthreads/createtable.php on line 63
This is so hard. I have installed PHP. I have installed mySQL. I have granted all the permissions in the world and I just cannot get this thing to work. There has to be an easier way. we11s.homeip.net/ubbthreads/install.php {don't post usernames and passwords boys and girls <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="images/icons/smile.gif" /> }
Last call for help before I give up totally.

Got it working! Realise the problem my firewall was causing for remote admin.
Only trouble now is that I cannot register as I do not have an SMTP mail server set up thus cannot send mails from my server. How can I get around this?
This is really strange. I decided to install that last release version, after getting the 'warning' errors on the includes.
Same thing!
So I've gone back to 6.0 br1, and that works!
If I take the config.inc.php, main.inc.php and theme.inc.php from the working install, and copy them into the latest version, I still get the include errors....
Are you pasting the stock - empty - versions into the new install? I would expect those to error as they don't provide any data that the applications requires? Is that the case?
No, I kept copies of those config files in a separate folder.
I've actually solved it, though I have no idea WHY.
I copied the upgrade files over the existing installation (after making a backup of the directory first!), and made sure the config files contained the correct paths etc... No joy.
Installed the previous release version back over the directory (without deleting content first), and still no joy...
When I renamed the ubbthreads folder to .bak, and renamed the backed up (working) version to 'ubbthreads', it worked.... So, after keeping a copy of the working folder, I deleted the contents of the install that didn't work.
I then installed the current beta into an EMPTY folder, copied my existing config files into it, and hey presto, no php errors!
I have no idea why, but it seems that installing the 'upgrade', over the existing install caused the problems.
As I said, I'm trying to install the trial version of UBBThreads to test it before purchasing. I don't have an older version to fall back on, and what I've seen on this thread so far isn't really helping me any. If my trial keeps resulting in errors then I can't very well recommend the program to my organization, despite the good reviews I've seen. Please help me figure out why the trial version will not install on my server.
OK, I checked main.inc.php, and the variable you referred to reads as follows in the code:
$thispath = "http://www.thearma.org/ubbthreads";
This looks like it's probably right to me unless it's supposed to be the server path (/www/htdocs/...), in which case it would be nice if that were mentioned somewhere.
Barring that, it's back to square one. Obviously, the first four errors I got have a common theme, and the last two don't look good either. I don't know enough about PHP to try and track it all down myself. Keep shootin', the target's still there.
Thanks Josh, that solved the problem. I probably should have realized it earlier, but I was following pattern from the URL filled in automatically at the top of Step 4. I think the documentation needs to be more clear on that for those of us who are new to this type of software. Well, on to testing!
