How do I allow my members to put up custom avatars, I saw the option to enable it, but when I did it won't allow us to upload from an external site. Any tips. Thanks.

It says "Directory does not exist" Where and how do I create this? Thanks.

familiarize yourself with your ubbthreads control panel.. you'll find it

Well I added a new directory on the server - /images/avatars/user_avatars and then CHMOD the user_avatars directory to 666.

Once you've done that go to Control Panel / Membership : Profile Settings / Avatars

Avatar Upload Storage Directory: put the path to your new directory (e.g. /home/mysite/public_html/ubbthreads/images/avatars/user_avatars)

Update your profile settings and test the (Click to test directory.) link to make sure it can be found and is writeable.

same idea applies to the attachments directory

Just an update on this. If you have any problems with avatars not displaying CHMOD the directory to 777.

When I wrote the reply above I CHMOD from 777 to 666 which was OK for a while and then the avatars were no longer displaying. Going back in to the directory the permissions had changed to 766 for some reason (wasn't me). CHMOD back to 777 fixed the problem.

I am having issues with uploading custom avatars as well.
the folder is setup, whenI test it, it says it is all set.

when I try to upload an avatar, I get no errors, but nothing ever gets uploaded. the system looks for the avatar at mysite/threads/avatars/usernumber.gif , but as I said, nothing ever got uploaded, so nothing is there.

I only have it set for admins, I checked the permissions.. I'm startin to pull my hair out here.
