Not sure how long they've been in there but how do I fix?
RBan (# 2) (active) Administrator 167
RBan_dup1 (# 22) (active) Administrator 167_dup1 ------------------------- 167 should be merged same user ------------------------- ACerr (# 455) (banned) User 812
ACope (# 457) (active) User 812_dup1 ------------------------- 812 Different Users ------------------------- WSel_dup1 (# 454) (active) User 811
H. F. E (# 456) (active) User 811_dup1 ------------------------- 811 Different Users -------------------------
how exactly would I go about fixing this. The Member number is apparently how they manage the list of users. Thus they mis-counted and duplicated somewhere obviously. could I do 811a & 812a? and how do I go about that so it will update all their stuff?
Sorry for the headache but figured I'd ask.. also shortened / changed names for safety sake!

well I have never tried the merge user option but this looks like something to try. But I really don't know why you have a concern. Unless you have like 10,000 members. just leave them alone and move on.

Nope... users login is user_dup1 that is a problem.. users need to have consistent login. Some paid members can't access because their username is now _dup1

Merge the two accounts. All posts, pms etc get put into the surviving account.
Before the process is commited you are shown what the end result will be, if you start with the wrong user account you can back out and start with the other account.

When the merge happens which password, email wins out. Does the surviving member keep the original password, email login name?

the "target" is the victor, and its info is used; like piper said, the merge screen tells you what is to be done

Thanks Gizmo. Bonus round question. How can someone get Dup members? And how do you find them? I know I have some but it really is not a true duplicate.A member that can't figure out how to get the lost password so they re register with different name, email etc. Or is this a old problem (possibly classic) where the admin did not validate email addresses for registration

I just checked our forum and out of nearly 13K users I had 15 *Dup1 accounts. These were all created back in v6 classic.
One was a banned account, which was done waaaay back then too. So I don't think this is a v7.Threads issue or import problem from classic to Threads.
Oh, to find them, just put "Dup1" in your Display Name search field.

Dup's are created from an import; generally if a user or pdn exists already when you import from classic or an older threads.
You find them by searching for users with dup in their name via member management.
Also, dup1 won't find dup2 (or dup3, etc)

DING DING DING The survey says Thank you So it looks like my suspicion is true, due to upgrades/importing. I don't have any but I also have always required unique email validation even in classic.

One way that people got dups coming from classic was that classic was case-sensitive. So, you could have bob and Bob, and those would be 2 distinct users. In threads bob and Bob are treated as the same, so one of them would get the _dup1 extension.
