Looking for some help with this one:
Since we upgraded to Version 7.4.2 I have been getting two reported issues:
1) Users are not able to register for a new account. When I tried creating an account I received the following message;
"UBB Message We encountered a problem. The reason reported was Database error only visible to forum administrators
Please click back to return to the previous page."
In the control panel, we get notification that there are registered users that need to be approved (we use this feature normally). These new users never make it into the database.
Permissions checks all come up "OK".
Not sure what else I can try.
2) Some of my users claim that they are not able to log in to the boards. When they type in their user name/password the screen refreshes and the fields are blank again (as if they click on "log in")
Any help would be appreciated...
Thanks, Brendan

Do you have error logs enabled in the ubb control panel? You could start there.

You might want to do that. You may be having a sql connection issue (Possibly) or anything else.

I will consider turning that on for the future. I'm going to check connection and logs on the server side while waiting for any other ideas...

Okay another option is to display the actual error details in the browser but that means anyone will see the actual error in stead of the generic error you stated in the post above. Just a quick copy of a post by Gizmo. This error is mentioned numerous times with the search option; quite simply, edit libs/mysql.inc.php, change the "showerror" line from a 0 to a 1, upload file; it will now show the error to anyone who can see it.
You'll want to change this back when you're finished however, as it could identify db names and other data your users don't really need...

The first one you'll definitely want to turn on error logging and then trying to register a user. That one you'll want to get fixed, could be a corrupt table, a missing field, etc.
As for the login issue, that's hard to say. It really should never just redirect them to the same page. If they are met with an error condition they should be getting an error page, if the cookies aren't sticking for some reason it should redirect to the main page, just not logged in. I can't really think of any reason why they'd be getting redirected to the exact same page.
Have you tried logging in as one of those users?

I can log in with the user accounts that were having trouble. In fact they were able to log in themselves from another computer. I thought maybe a browser issue with some I.E. setting, but could not duplicate.
I turned on error logging. I am going to try registering and see what the log says after. I'll post what I find.
Thanks, Brendan

MySQL was running in strict mode and had to be adjusted... Rick said they have addressed this in 7.5.1 (am I saying that right Rick?).
Sorry I left out the details...

That is close enough. At least it is a clue on future similar issues.
