the site is RELforum.net

When I click FORUM LIST it says: There are no forums for you to view.

But I went through and I have 58 different forums under 13 different catergories but they dont show up. What am I doing wrong?

Let me give you some tips:

You have way too many forums for a site just starting out. Condense some and don't make people scroll forever though a list of empty forums. Some of those forums on the bottom will never get used the way you're currently laid out. Split out the forums after you have some content; the discussions will show you where to make the splits, but condense down for now.

Don't make people register just to read and lurk. They won't. And they won't post if they don't see something interesting to reply to.

Search engines can't register. Your content will never see the light of google or yahoo if it is register to read.

Great idea. I think I'll condense the topics that wont be used right away.

where can I control what goes into the very center of my portal page? I have so much open area where you log into the site and would like to setup a "home page" in that area.

David,

I didnt understand what you meant by "Don't make people register just to read and lurk. They won't. And they won't post if they don't see something interesting to reply to." But I just went to look post something in one of my forums and it says access denied. Yet I am logged in as the admin.

How do I fix this? I cant view ANY of my forums?!

well. i think i have figured out most of mine through just testing things. right now I'm trying to figure out how change the way it looks. I would like to give the background a different color and would just like to make small tweaks like that. Is there an actual manual that I can learn all the different terms and controls?

No actual manual at least not a detailed one. I guess there have been so many changes Rick just has not had time to put one together. Now we have version 8 on the horizon so it will be different again.
As far as appearance goes it is all css based in the control panel under styles.
What you may want to do in install some extra styles at ubbskins.com.

Then you could play with them without hosing up your existing styles

Okay lets start from scratch.
I am assuming you are attempting to add a style
Where and which style did you get?

Okay you want the second attachment 324.
Because the one you have now is a little outdated for your version.
Download the zip file and extract it.
You will have two folders and a txt file.
Add the two folders and contents to your site using ftp.
So when you connect ftp goto forums/styles/images
Upload the two folders with contents there.
Then goto cp>styles and select import style.
You will then be prompted to brows to a file. Browse to your computer where you extracted the zip file and select the ubbcentral_with_wrapper.txt file. And import it.
It will add that style to the control panel to use.

FTP=File Transfer Protocol
What do you use to upload files to your site?
Use that.

Okay. Just for thrills.
Whatever host you have should have a control panel to manage your site. There should be a option to upload files.
If this is to much to deal with at this time there is another option that you can use in the ubb control panel to copy a style without uploading anything.
This will add another style using settings from an existing style you have installed already. Such as Ubbthreads-stock and ubbthreads-dark.

But you should look into a ftp program to at least make backups.
One I use which is free is http://filezilla-project.org

oh ok. i'll start using filezilla and then follow the steps you gave me from earlier. also, my site is all about renewable energy. so i'm looking for something "green" but not st. patricks day green or cartoon green. do you know of any "professional" green styles?

Well you can try at this site .
Forum is Style Downloads
Some links are broken as to previews, And some links are broke to download. But there are a couple of green ones.

But Rick is slowly moving them to ubbskins.com.
This is a new site Rick added so it may take a while to get styles built up

Also you could peek at UBBdev.com and see if there is something there.
