I was thinking about upgrading my 1280 x 1024 5:4 monitor for a widescreen so I went to a local store and purchased a top spec full HD 1920 x 1080 16:9 monitor and it's awful! eek

My current screen is 19" and the new one is 22" but because of the resolution the regular (recommended) display setting is giving me a head ache because everything is so small. I think that I should take it back and change it for a 1680 x 1050 8:5 but would like some feedback on your monitor size and resolution of choice or that you are happy with.

I know that changing from a square screen to a widescreen actually results in a reduction in size unless you swap something like a 17" for a 24" but ideally I'm aiming for something that I can comfortably use at around the 22" mark.

There's a good wiki link here for display resolutions.

when switching from a CRT to an LCD, it can cause headaches for a bit as your eyes adjust to it. when I first got mine I had horrible headaches. but not anymore.

I went from dual CRTs to dual LCDs, I had a 19" and a 17" and now I have a 21.5" at 1920x1080 and a I have a 22" at 1680x1050

You know, an LCD is an LCD... Reguardless of if it's a laptop or not; just take screen size and resolution into account

6" monitor, 80x80 resolution.

In all seriousness, I'm on 3 monitors, 1680x1050. Changing to a widescreen definitely took some getting used to. If I had a single monitor I don't think I'd like the widescreen format as much.

not really, it's a desktop crammed in laptop shell... dell inspiron 9100, has a desktop P4 3.2 dual core in it!

battery won't hold a charge, so its usefulness as a portable device are limited.

nice to have in a hotel room though when I am away from home, can still check all my mail, websites, and can maintain mine if need be. used it this summer to broadcast webcam stuff on vacation.

Thanks for the feedback folks. I exchanged it for a 22" LG W2254TQ 1680 x 1050 and it's much better than the 1920 x 1080.
