Hi all.
I'm running 7.5.6

Today we noticed that if you upload an attachment to a post, the link to the attachment appears okay, but when you click on it you get a 404 error.

I've taken a look server-side for a specific case, and am unable to locate the uploaded file (despite doing a full search on all directories).
I've tested this as the admin user, and can confirm that you do not get any error messages at the time of performing the attachment, and there is nothing in the sql logs to indicate any issue.

My last known good attachment was loaded on 26th October 2010. Looking at the admin logs there are only 2 'major' tweaks that have been done to my site since that date.
The first was the upgrade to 7.5.6
The second was the creation of a new user group (called New Users) into which all new registrants were placed. This new group routed all postings via admin moderation until they hit a post-count of 10 (when they are allocated to the normal users group).
I've checked the permissions on both groups and both are allowed to add attachments and download them.

My feature settings for attachements are:
Attachment storage directory = /home/hcmaces/public_html/forums/ubbthreads7/attachments
Full URL = http://www.hcmaces.com/forums/ubbthreads7/attachments
If i click on the test directory link i get the correct message about it being valid and writeable.

If i hover over one of the 'duff' links i see the following path on the status bar...
hcmaces.com/forums/ubbthreads7/ubbthreads.php/ubb/download/Number/46/filename/create_emp.txt

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Baz

you might want to protect that directory from browsing via directory listing (.htaccess or add a blank index.html there)

also, do you have a tmp directory under ubbthreads7 ?

that should be writeable as well

It was the permissions on the tmp sub-directory.

Problem solved, however is it would raising this as a bug-ette? As i got no form of warning or error when uploading the attachments??

Control Panel ยป Permission Checks
Anything that does not have ok is a potential problem
Probably had a fail on the tmp folder

It is the last item on the list.
