Are the system requirements for UBBthreads i.e:

PHP 4.3+
MySQL 4 or 5

...the minimum requirements?

For instance :

1. Can we install UBBthreads on a system running PHP 5.3.5 and MySQL 5.5
Am I correct in assuming that the latest versions of PHP and MySQL are backward compatible with Apps written with PHP 4.3 and MySQL 5.0 for instance.

2. Can we integrate code written using PHP 5.3.5 and MySQL 5.5, with the upcoming version 8 of UBBThreads.

3. Code utilizing Zend Framework can that be integrated with version 8's code

3. What are the requirements of Version 8

Sorry for asking questions which might sound dumb to many but I have to step on the learning curve somewhere cry

It should install in your environment, however v8 is another complete rewrite in code; it it's not likely code written for v7 will port over directly to v8.

1: older apps written for older php and mysql versions aren't always compatible, however ubbthreads will be ( it already _is_ on my systems, where i run latest php/mysql/apache )

2: yes

3: yes, but you'll need to know how to do that

3 v2.0: Same as v7.5.6, i believe, although the minimums might increase (which can only be a good thing, anyway)

thanks, I am working on setting up Zend Studio and Zend Server as my environment but was not too sure which versions of PHP and MySQL I should dictate as part of the environment.

One thing I forgot to ask, do I need to watch out for in general the versions currently supported by most of the hosting companies, and any idea on how long it typically takes for them to catch up with the latest versions of PHP and MySQL in the event I decide to set up my environment with the latest and greatest versions.

The other thing I am contemplating is would I be a lot better off in setting up Zend Server on a Windows XP laptop or Windows 7. As I have heard rumours that XP is faster than Windows 7, but then one may face the problem that the new and up coming third party software products may not run on XP, any words of advise for me......

Zend on windows 7 works fine, but you'd really only be using studio for debugging code.

the way Zend projects work MVC ( model / view / controller ) isn't hte way that ubb.threads 8 is.
