Can I host the Tweet and Facebook buttons and have necessary functional info included in the Link if someone clicks it? Situation is.. member(s) accessing Forum from Gov't or other Computers where Twitter & Facebook sites are blocked. They get warning Popups every time they visit the Forum. Bill

Yep, me too. I have had to disable the Facebook button completely as my visitors get blocked from my entire site

I think this is a no in your case. Because I deal with this myself. The problem is because it is a social site, They are considered the same so the IT department blocks them. Based on a referenced database that determines that the link is not allowed. Not a setting per say on your site but that it is blocked because the link goes to them. I had some issues with the IAEI Palm Beach division in Florida a few years back and it was pure hell to correct it. The IT department determined that our site was not allowed based on the service they used. So it was a big hurdle to get it approved. Meaning go to each IT department to get the sites approved.

Yep, The real hell was they blocked the whole site not just some items. And at the time the facebook/twitter links were not even there.

Same here. It took a long time to restore 'normal relations'.
Then the links came along and as soon as I got word of problems, I had to dismiss them immediately.
Shame.

Well, i'm not sure I really understand this all, so let me know if this idea for a proposed "mod" would work...
What if they only showed for users who are logged in?

What if they only showed for users who are logged in? My original thoughts were about the logged in people being annoyed by warnings, but now I'm having second thoughts about trying to get it to work at all. My people don't really seem to be the Tweeting type anyway. Bill

Several years ago, my site was blocked by my employer's HQ (and other companies, too) because of the "chat" button. I have a "Facebook" link now, but it is just a text link to my site's Facebook page. I have not had any complaints about blocks lately.

What if they only showed for users who are logged in? I can't imagine that would help. As soon as the facebook (api?) is detected - logged in or not - the site would be banned (wouldn't it?)

Well, it'd depend on their mechanism for detection... Ultimately if they'll ban you for it being there (reguardless of if you're logged in or not) you might as well disable it (perhaps a tick to allow it on their user settings?), if they just check back to see if something is there they don't like and doesn't detect logged in data then it might work

Yes, I take your point mate. However with so many of my users having the same problem, it's me that has to disable it, not them. I couldn't really risk them not being able to access the site in order to un-tick the box. Possibly if they had to work from home, they might not use the site at all. Going back over the complaints, I see that users aren't (weren't) allowed access at all. They were redirected to another page explaining a 'security' issue.

This is my episode with this. Again! Prior to even the facebook/tweet feature. Dealing with IT departments in government entities. They subscribe to some blacklisting database software. Looking for some type of social site determined by the criteria they preset. Then the software rejects the site because it does not meet the criteria they set.Somewhat just like internet security software uses today on our personal desktop stations.
Right or wrong. The IT department is reluctant to add a exception.
For example just like ecnet's site my site is is pretty much the same, but then some IT departments banned the whole site, because it was a forum software and deemed a social site. So when the member tried to access the site from work. no joy. I have some limited success dealing with some cities. But not all. I can only guess that with the added facebook/tweet integration is is probably compounded to be a worse case issue now.
