Yahoo site explorer is giving me the following as two of the key search terms: Zlib compression, disabled.
Is there a way in which i can turn that off?
Furthermore if there's a thread on DIY SEO then please point it out as i'm very new at this.
And if i'm wasting too much time on that footer issue then please tell me that also.
thanks

Zlib compression is probably something you should enable if available from your host. It will benefit all who visit your site. It sounds like it is off now.
Control Panel ยป Primary Settings [-] Advanced Options Enable zlib Compression?
I am not sure on what you mean by your footer issue?
Oh maybe you mean the message in the footer that shows the generation time and if zlib is enabled. Same place as above but it is: Show Debug Information in Footer?

To turn that off go into CP->Primary Settings->General->Advanced Options->Uncheck show debug info.
I wouldn't get too caught up on key search term like that. Often on a message board there will be a search term not related to the boards content that will be popular in searches. For instance on my board if you search "really big housecats" we come up in the top 4 for that. Terms can get much more "graphic" as well.
If you are interested in SEO read a lot of Matt Cutts stuff, follow him on twitter. SEOMoz has a great blog, and there is tons to read on Webmasters World. There are obviously a lot of good and bad techniques available, and you could hire a team of SEOologists to "optimize" your site, but as I've said before in another thread the best thing you can do for SEO is just run a really good community and things will take care of themselves. Content is king!

Also, like Ruben pointed out having zlib compression on if supported is really beneficial. PHPinfo in the admin panel will tell you that.

I'd definately keep zlib on, keep the html extension, and have the "new" urls worked in for SEO

with mod_pagespeed ( if that is an option ), i turn off zlib actually, with just mod deflate and a good .htaccess file, i turn off zlib too apache does a much better job of compressing things than offloading it to php

Thanks everyone!!! I have enabled Zlib compression. I have removed the "Zlib" footer as it was coming up as one of our "key terms" in search engines. ...keep the html extension, and have the "new" urls worked in for SEO I did check the box to "Enable HTML Extension." But then quickly unchecked it and resubmitted the change. As i understand it this would not be beneficial (at least not in the short term) unless i were to resubmit the new URLs to the search engines. Am i correct? Because I can do that if need be. But i can not do it today, so i best not start it today.

It'll be beneficial as they'll crawl the new URLs when they check the old ones; both sets of links will remain valid.
