Hi, just a thought, we have lots of users using PM's to communicate because we dont have a forum for that area & my boss wont let them have a public forum.
Is it possible to provide a private forum for only those users to use? Ive had a look at groups and had a look around but dont want to move the users into another group, just give access and that doesn't seem possible.
Any ideas? thanks
Wendy

Assuming you don't want all members in the regular user group access. For stock code, groups would be the way to go. Say add a forum called "PMforum" and a group called "PMgroup". Set permissions on "PMforums" to only be visible to "PMgroups" and of course admin. Then add the members to "PMgroups". Or they could be added auto mode if you set a post count to the group.

Thanks Ruben, I will take a look at that and give it a go. It would be good if I could add random members to a new group rather then MOVE them.

There would not be a move them item. You would just goto member management and add then to the new group. Don't delete them from their existing group
Thinking out loud. You may not want to add post count. at least for later on. Because if you have a problem child and you remove them from the group, they will keep getting added to the group again if they post somewhere else on the site. But if you set it at say 100 post's at the inception then they will get added by themselves as they post. Then just delete the post count and you could delete the problem posters when needed.
Of course I don't know how popular it would be since a pm is a private message, So members may not take advantage of the new forum since it may be directed to a specific user and they don't want the post to be public.

Im not really understanding the post count thing, but will look into it.

If you goto: Control Panel » Group Management you will see a note at the bottom that states: By filling in the Post Count field you can make it so users will automatically be added to that particular group once they reach the designated Post Count. Leave blank, or 0, to disable this feature.
The post count field only appears for the most part for groups added that are not the default ones. So if you add a group and set it to 100 posts, even if someone has a 1000 they will be added when they post 1001.
To invite them in would be another issue. There would not be a automatic say welcome message. but you could say add someone manually to the group and post a pm to them that states you are now able to post in x forum. So in stock code no, There is not a registration for just a specific forum. It would be a manual thing. You could set the forum as a teaser forum so they see it exists but can't access it. Then have a note to request to be added to it.
There is a forum here called teaser forum that does just that.

Great, thanks again Ruben. No, I dont want it to be visible at all, just by word of mouth, and I will manually add users then.
Cheers

I don't have a clue. I have a test subscription group myself but I don't see a way to delete it. Probably takes some database diving. You could try deleting the group from: Control Panel » Group Management
But to be honest I never tried it.
