note, 7.6 version that i include here isn't the final one, but it will work with 7.5.6, so i didn't include the fancy schmancy final final one that will be in 7.6
Actually I have seen him (her) around in the who's online frequently. He/she pays attention to posts so don't hesitate just send the pm and I think Brook? will get back sooner rather than later.

Download the full 7.5.6p2 not the patch, upload the files and run the upgrade just like your normally would with an upgrade. If you had 7.5.6 already you would just need to override the files with the patched ones.
There are 8000+ members on the forum I want to upgrade from 7.5.5 to 7.5.6p2. I am running a little scared of the consequences of a screw-up so I need a confidence injection.
I have downloaded the full 7.5.6p2 and have browsed the doc_upgrade7.php file. It seems fairly straight forward. Do I have to worry about file and directory permissions since this is a living breathing forum?
When you do the upgrade, close your forums. After you upgrade check the file permission section in the cp. Sometime you will have to go in and change some file permissions.
I have noticed on some upgrades when going through the installer it may fail at points saying it cannot write to file. Just ftp in, change the file permission and proceed. Files 666 and directories 777
As always, be sure you have a backup of your db and files before you get started just in case! And don't forget

Otherwise you'll find yourself with quite a large mess on your hands...

Usually no since the file/folder permissions are already set. And you have a minor upgrade. But I would keep the board closed till you at least check it. Since a admin can still see the board. And don't forget the cardinal rule. Backup,Backup,Backup.
Blue Man Group There is no such thing as stupid questions. Just stupid answers
i've attached 7.6's top posters, which has an option to choose which groups ( default all groups are included ) to include in the list.
so, for your example, you probably want to NOT have groups 1, 2, 3 ( admin, globalmod, mod ) included, but all else.
Assuming you have just users for now ( group 4 )...
you would do $inGroups = array( 4 );
I am finally getting back to this.
(I am not a programmer, though I once programmed several large apps in compiled BASIC in a past life).
I downloaded and extracted the Zip file to a directory on my desktop. I loaded up the file in a text editor and searched for the "$groupsIn". I found two instances of it outside the documentation at the beginning of the file. Which one do I change to: $inGroups = array( 4 ); ?
Do I just put this file in the Admin directory on the server or ?
One of these days I need to learn more about PHP......
