Are there any suggested options to use with mysqldump when doing a backup of the whole database into one backup file?
I've searched the forums for any postings on this in the last year and didn't see anything.

Actually I do use the ubb utility for backups but only as a alternate method.
I would hate to have to upload one table at a time. 64+ times.
I usually use a zip or tar method to download a backup.

I also will do a zip or tar but I need to know if there any suggested options on the mysqldump command under mysql that I should use to create the file that would be zipped.

mysqldump -u user -p database_name > dumpfilename.sql The above command should ask you for your password once you hit enter, it'll then dump the database databasename to the file dumpfilename.sql You can then tar the file so it's compressed; since it's just text it compresses really well, so run: tar -cvzf archive.tgz dumpfilename.sql

Actually I do use the ubb utility for backups but only as a alternate method. See, I would only do this as a complete last resort as so many things can go wrong... I'd hate to depend on a backup just to find out that the servers max execution time had hit mid way through either creating or downloading the file...

Thanks. That is basically what I am doing now. I just wasn't sure if the mysqldump needed any options set in order to dump it correctly.
