I am running UBB.threads 7.5.6p2 being accessed from 2 separate computers running Win 7 both with IE 9.0.8112.16421. I have the same maintenance for Windows and IE applied to both computers. I have the IE options for privacy, security and advanced set the same on both. The only difference is that one is a 64 bit Win system and one is a 32 bit Win system.
Using the Win 32 bit IE to log in to my UBB system the log in doesn't work. There are no error messages or status line messages. The top right area continues to say "Not logged in". I've tried clearing my cookies and my cache and rebooting to no avail. When I tried logging into this UBB forum from the same PC using IE a similar situation occurred. Only with the UBB forum, I got the "Welcome DennyP" message. But when I clicked on the Forum List link the next page showed me as not logged in.
My other PC (64 bit Win) - does not have these problems even with the same IE options.
I can get into both my message board and into this one with no problem using Firefox and Chrome from both PCs.
I have not yet received any complaints from my board users of similar problems.
Any thoughts or debugging ideas?

Additional information ...
Just now I closed my IE window and restarted IE. I didn't do anything else other than restart IE. The login problem went away. I closed my IE window yesterday and restarted IE and the problem didn't go away. Any idea why the apparent randomness in both the appearance of the problem and its disappearance?

This has been a long standing issue. There have been some small steps implemented on the 7.x series updates with limited success. Due to it impacts some but not all users with similar setups. SD was working on this in the 7.6 update. So hopefully that update will become a reality.
PS, Some have had success with using compatibility mode in IE.

Thanks for the information. Hopefully 7.6 will appear shortly for general use. Is it in beta now?

The problem seems to come and go randomly. I can go for days on any of my computers without a problem, and then all of a sudden I won't be able to log in, even though I am logging in. It happens here, and it happens on my own site, but not necessarily at the same time.

There are several suggestions on the " setcookie" portion of php.net that could be pointers to aid the issue for users who are actually able to recreate this behavior. Including: It seems the IE (6, 7, 8 and 9) do not accept the part 'Expire=0' when setting a session cookie. To fix it just don't put any expire at all. The default behavior when the 'Expire' is not set is to set the cookie as a session one.
