Since I upgraded to version 7.5.7 cookies for returning members are not working any more. Logged in users stay logged in during their session, but once they close their browser, they are logged out. I tried re-uploading the changed 7.5.7 files, deleting my cookies and saved passwords, but nothing seems to work. Do you have any suggestions how to make this work again?

By the way: I had complains about this from IE, Firefox and Chrome users.

Have you suggested to members to clear cookies via the my-stuff?
It is suggested to do so.
One way to force it is to change the cookie prefix.

I tried both solutions already. I also tried changing the board security key (once) since I red it had something to do with cookies.

I think I solved it.

In the upgrade_changes.txt file (which I used to upgrade without re-modding my whole system) are not all changed files mentioned.

Files that should be added:

VERSION-7.5.7:CHANGED: admin/loginas.php
VERSION-7.5.7:CHANGED: libs/html.inc.php
VERSION-7.5.7:CHANGED: scripts/changebasic.inc.php
VERSION-7.5.7:CHANGED: scripts/logout.inc.php

technically, EVERY file changed, since they have internal versions of 7.5.7

so i don't recommend just uploading according to the changes.txt file.

use a real tool, like beyond compare.. and merge any MODS that you may have from older code into the NEW files.

also, with a proper editor.. a search / replace in files is really easy...

there may be other files that aren't caught too.. that file can't be treated as gospel, nor should it have been that way in past releases either.

whenever i do an upgrade, the result is that EVERY file on the new install is properly a version 7.5.7 ( or newest ) version.

nothing old left behind.

It escapes me why people always try a shortcut to upgrade.
Unless you have a modded forum. It takes just as long to look for and replace just the files from the changed txt file as it does to just upload all the files.

When I upgraded from v7.5.6 to v7.5.7 took a whole whopping 20-30 minutes. From downloading/extracting the zip to ftp upload.

Now making a backup prior is another story. But that is just best practices.

Besides if this needed to alter tables you still would need to run the upgrade script.

For people that wish to preserve mods then you should use something like beyond compare. But for the complete forum folder and not rely on the change txt file.

I would never expect that SD nor Rick would list every single file. Just for the sake of the version in the comments.
Nor if there are just very minor changes.
