We use the program Live Traffic Feed, the freeware edition.

My question is this, it can see the topic title of private messages. How does it do that? Seems kinda like it should not be able to.

The javascript loads on every page, the title of private messages are in the title; so when it loads the javascript it grabs the title and there you go.
