i have a few questions that i need answered before i buy

i was wondering i run a huge forum and i need to know does this version and or the new one offer a news display option for like announcements when users log in? this is a must need feat for my forum

also ive tried the demo option but some where on your site i seen something mentioned about a trial license is this still available and if so how do i go about obtaining it my staff and the members are used to V Bulletin and we kinda need something of a crash coarse before the change to ubb in a few weeks is this at all possible ?

also would you suggest that i wait til the new version is released before i buy this software or should i buy now and upgrade later?

thanks so much

I am not so sure about the trial version since the site has changed hands. Can't find it off hand at the moment. Been a long time.
But if you tried the demo then that would be it.
Don't bother waiting on a new release. If the current version works for you. Then you can upgrade at a later date if needed.
I am not sure on your news requirements.
There is a RSS feed option as well as a active posts island that can be included on the portal option or the main page.

ohh i forgot to ask v bulletin has member levels like you can gain access to the next member level say you have to have so many posts before you can get to the next member level or something like post counts plus registration date = the next level like level 1 2 3 so on is that a feature here as well ???

sorry for so many questions just wanting to ensure i am investing my money wisely

So long as you're only operating one instance (install) of the software per license; and the domain name associated with the license is what's running the software, yeah, you can run it in one place so your members can get used to it.

I lied lol how about a warning system as I said before my forum is pretty big and i was asked by some staff if there is a way to use a warning system to help keep track of the troublesome members kinda like if a thread gets reported we will be able to issue an infraction and the system keeps track and after a certain amount of "points" or warnings they will automatically get banned or "suspended" this is kinda needed for my forum and im kinda hoping this software has a system like that of some sort

the reason we are switching from VB is we have had some issues with software compatibility issues and we heard ubb is a lot easier but as said before just want to ensure the funds are well spent into a suitable software

We do not currently have a warning system in place. It is something that we definitely need to get in however. I do know some of the admins have posted some ideas on how they deal with this for now and maybe one or two of them will chime in here.

First thing I'd do is actually bring up the install/install.php scripts. Some servers, depending on what they are running and the configuration, don't actually need the permission changes.

So I'd bring that up and see if it's giving you FAILS. If it is then you'll need to set the permissions, but since they aren't actually changing you might not need it.

Another thing to consider is if you are the owner of the file.
On your ftp program check the owner/group number on the ones you can't change permissions.
If you have some files you can change compare the owner/group number
You may need to call your host to allow you to change the permissions.

I too own a veritable monster of a a forum. Mine is much older, though. I can't remember if what I'm about to discuss is a tweak or it came that way. Mods see member profiles with extra info, yes? My mods see profiles with: warnings, bans and such at the bottom of the forum. My brilliant techie adds those up and puts them at the top of Admin: you know who is about to get the boot, who has a 3 day vacation, etc.

IF that's a tweak, many of these guys can quickly tweak yours to do the same thing.

Well running 6.2 is at a serious security risk and should be updated as soon as possible.
Several security holes have be identified since that version.
And I advise you to update, even with the risk of loosing the mods you have in place now.

Other than your bad URL.
Yes member levels are groups. Every member is assigned at least one group
You can have as many groups as you like.
Each group can be assigned different permissions and can be auto assigned by number of posts. or just manually added to a group.
