I've been given 60 days from my hosting company to upgrade to a compatible code base. They have installed PHP 5.4 which has broken my site so have reverted it back to 5.3 and added a line of code to enable it again.

I think it's about time to upgrade to the latest version. Please could someone let me know what I need to do, costs and help guides? It's been 9 years since I even looked at the code so go easy.

Help will be very much appreciated smile

First is you would need to renew your member access to the software.
$59.00 for renewal for 1 year.

You will end up upgrading to threads 6.5.5
Then you will need to install v7.0? and import 6.5.5
Then upgrade to 7.5.7.

I am not certain on the 7.0 it may be 7.2.
The reason is there is a undocumented quirk where everyone becomes a moderator. Due to some additional fields in v7 versus v6.
Same goes with classic.
Gizmo knows which version to start with I believe.

I usually do 7.0 then upgrade to the latest; 7.2 changes the database and the importer isn't compatible; you'll end up with every user listed as a moderator if you go straight from 6.5 to the latest.

BTW,
I just re read your post completely.
You do know that even the current version does not support php 5.4 completely yet.
It is supposed to be a upcoming release.

So there is a possibility after paying for the upgrade that it may well still not be working on the hosted server? >.<

I have now paid for the membership subscription.

I would like to have a go at upgrading from 6.5.1 to 6.5.5 (I believe this needs doing before being able to go onto the V7's) - This I would get a pro to do.

Just to help understand the forum if it's not too straining then i'd like to get the first install done. Where is the documentation/help guides and install files?

since you have posted your first hurdle I assume you found the file in the members area.

You can follow the version 7 upgrade doc as a guide.
it is very close.
