Dear group -
I've had something odd happening recently. There are top level IP address bans ending up in my ban list. So something like 123.% is an entry, which of course ends up banning a lot of legitimate users.
In the past I'd manually added items into there, when we had a repeated issue with a hacker, but now it seems that numbers are getting in there on their own. Is this the stop forum spam hook-in doing this? Or is something else causing this?

From what I see on stop form spam it does not make a entry for emails or ip in the ban list. It only works in the registration process. In fact when it came out Gizmo noted it does not block bad ip's it only blocks bad emails. it makes a notation there is a bad ip or email. But it only acts on the email address automatically if it is set to do so. But I believe that was addressed in v5.7.8.

Stop Forum Spam doesn't deal with your forums ban lists at all; the lists it utilizes are from the Stop Forum Spam database at their site through an API and none of that data is saved locally.

OK, so any ideas how entire IPs are getting onto my list? Does that mean my forums have been compromised and hackers are doing this? This is fairly bizarre behavior which has only recently begun.
I changed all my passwords back when I had the chat software hacker invasion in October, so it would be odd if someone has gotten in again.

All you can do is to change your password once again. Monitor the ip list and see if it grows again. If it does after the password change then it points to internal and not external.
* Is there anything in the logs ?
* I would be freaked out to.
The only other thing i can think of is years ago using Tabs in FF it presented strange things on the screen to me. Even after CTRL +F5 many times. After a restart of the PC i was seeing what i should be seeing. Meaning that because i had tabs open for days at a time, i was seeing strange things too. Mine was not in the IP list i cant remember what it was now but it had me going in circles for over a week.

Just to follow up, it ended up that one of my managers had decided to start adding IP addresses to that area without understanding how IP addresses work or talking with me. So I had to remove everything in that area and we're starting over . Lisa
