I have a need to upgrade to the latest version. Currently running 7.5.4.2 and have been for past 5+ years. Before I upgrade I'd like to fix a long-standing problem. Gizmo might remember this. At Rick's request - years ago - I submitted a ticket to fix the problem but we never got around to it.

Not sure from which version I was upgrading from/to, but my Mods were all imported as Global Mods and users imported as Mods. Current users are correctly being registered as users. Total registered users now at 10.987. I should have only 1 admin & 9 moderators.

This problem was alluded to in the now five-year-old thread here:
http://www.ubbcentral.com/forums/ubbthreads.php/topics/221142 (1/13/2009)

Again, would like to fix this before upgrading - suggestions? Should I submit a support ticket? or ??

A screen print of Group Editor here:

thanks,
Charles

Also, I might add that I've attempted to delete the bottom three (8,9,10) groups but get error messages.

Script: /usr/www/users/packlite/forum/admin/dogroupmanage.php
Line#: 81
SQL Error: Unknown column 'uid' in 'where clause'
SQL Error #: 1054
Query: select USER_ID as uid from ubbt_USER_GROUPS where GROUP_ID = 10 and USER_ID = (select distinct USER_ID from ubbt_USER_GROUPS where GROUP_ID <> 10 and USER_ID = uid)

This is a very old import error.
Like around version 7.2.
But anyway to get people off of the mod groups needs a mysql query.
Then manually add the actual moderators back.
Try
http://www.ubbcentral.com/forums/ubbthreads.php/ubb/showflat/Number/223217/
That will move the moderators to users.
Then just change the group id from 3 to 2 for global mods
Run again
Then manually add the actual moderators back.
But anyway to get people off of the mod groups needs a mysql query.
If you are leery then ask away for someone for hire or open a support ticket.

A far as deleting groups there was a bug that did not allow you to delete them the last time I tried.
But it will fail no matter what till you move the people out of those groups.
To move the people out of the custom groups just use member management.
Use the advanced search for selecting the custom groups
Then select all.
Then at the bottom are two options
select to change groups.
then elect all members in search.
submit and the next screen should be self explanatory.
As to add/move or delete
Meaning add to users
remove from the other custom groups.

Thanks Ruben. I will submit a ticket.

Strange, even though Group Editor says I have 3359 moderators, I have actually zero moderators. All users.

Users are either Group Mods (9) or users. It could be that I, at some point in the past, moved all users via the user mgmt tool, but can't remember.

All system permissions seem to be correct but it is the Group Editor summary that is screwed.

thanks again.

Charles

It had to do with when ubb added the global moderator feature.
Where it did not exist before.
So using the dbase group id
1 admin
2 moderator
3 user
4 guest

Became

1 admin
2 global moderator
3 moderator
4 user
5 guest

Then Rick only included the correct importer for the previous version that did not have it to the current version at the time that did.
So as you can see a user became a mod
a mod became a global mod

In your case it appears moderators are a member of the moderator group but you never assigned a actual moderator.
The nine global moderators were probably moderators at the time of the upgrade.
I can't believe you lived with this for so many years.

Now it's all coming back. Thanks for the explanation. Yes, global mods were originally mods, etc.

Yes it's true. Now if only I could fix the arthritic hands that I've been living with for so long - sigh !

Good luck.
With your trouble ticket.

If you don't get a response there are people here for hire that can do it for you.

Should be nothing more than ubb cp admin access.
But a full backup would be advised prior.
Just good to do.
