I've decided to change our forums to a subscription model. Users will still be able to read without subscribing but will need to subscribe to post.
I created groups (one for monthly payments, one for yearly) with different levels (bronze, silver, gold, etc.), each with it's own icon. I presumed when someone opts to subscribe they would automatically get the icon/badge. Which conversely would mean when they stop subscribing they are dropped from the group and the icon/badge disappears.
Apparently that's not how it works? Am I missing something, or is there a way to automate this?
Otherwise I'll have to manually add it to each new subscriber. That may not sound like a big deal, but we have nearly 94,000 subscribers and pick up 10-15 a day on average.
When they are part of a group that has a badge option, they can choose to display that with their account or not. The setting is in their "Edit Profile" page.
I believe it was initially written that way (over a decade ago) to be a choice the user needs to make, since not all users want to display an "I donated" or "I'm a subscriber" type of badge on their accounts.
For example, I personally prefer NOT to have an "admin" badge displayed on forum accounts where I have been asked to help test/debug/write/setup features for. I also prefer to not stand out when I contribute donations to a forum on a subscription style basis.
Another reason it's not turned on automatically when I user is added to a new group, is possibly because a forum may have over 20 different sub groups, each with their own badge. Having a user display 20 badges next to each and every post by default, is a bit overwhelming for everyone. So instead, a user is given a choice as to what they want to display.
Now the few people who jumped on board immediately don't have a badge, even though they are assigned to a supporting group that has an icon associated with it.
I take it the automatic badge display option only works if you start with the subscription link in your membership drop down? Any way I can fix the ones that I messed up on (short of manually creating a custom title)?
If the member belongs to a group that has a Group Image assigned to it, they will be able to choose (from their profile settings page) to have that Group Image displayed on their profile.
The Group Badge is linked to the group, not to the member.
You can change the Group Image as often as you'd like, and all members within that group will receive the updated Group Image selection option. If you remove a Group Image, then no members in that group will have a Group Image.
Your member only needs to visit their profile settings page and select the new Group Image.
There is no choice showing in the members profile for the icon/display for their group.
I've attached 3 pictures.
One shows a list of groups with the number of members assigned Another one shows a snap shot of my profile showing the icon choices (admin and platinum) And finally, a shot of a member's profile from a member assigned to the Bronze Yearly Subscription which has a "bronze" icon assigned.
Is this affecting all of your users in that group, or just a single one?
What happens when you remove the user from that group and then re-add them?
Both the "Group Editor" and "Edit Profile" pull their data from the exact same ubbt_GROUPS and ubbt_USER_GROUPS tables. Something must be different with this single user, which is not affecting the other users which you say are in exactly the same groups, and are able to choose a Group Image.
It's effecting all. Some of the members have Custom Titles I created manually.
None of them, regardless of what group the belong to, show a choice for the Group Icon/Badge. I tried removing the group from one of the members, then adding it back in, still no choice for a Group icon anywhere in their profile.
I don't know how to fix this, and some members are getting antsy (don't blame them if they already sent me money).
I don't think the custom subscription page has anything to do with the issue. As long as when the use it they are assigned to the proper subscription group. and the group has a image.
The image banner has really nothing to do with subscriptions. They are assigned to a group and regardless if they are a custom group or subscription group the image will appear in their profile once they join a group to select if they wish to display it. They can be promoted to a group by manually or automatically via post count, subscription.
Maybe you have multiple groups with the similar name or possibly different members with similar names.
The first thing I would do is in the cp. Check the member in member management. Make sure it is the correct member and then look at what groups they are in. Then look at groups and see if the specific group or groups have images. Then become the member and open their profile and see if the same group badges are available If that looks okay then I would double check that the group is in fact a subscription group.
Other than that possibly you have some corrupted scripts????
I was going to check your site on my profile but I appear to be registered on your site already but lost password says it sent a email but I never get the email and I get a error when I use my email for a new registration. I got tired of waiting on a email and figured out my login. My display name is Ruben Rocha
I don't know what group i am in or if it has a badge image but try manually adding me to a group with a image. And I will check.
Just to add to the issue your email notices do not appear to work. I also tried a email post. it is close to an hour with neither email sent. Password or email post.
