Greetings . . .

Is there a way to configure the default behavior of the "show/hide columns" feature?

Specifically, on smart phones our forums now render with the columns hidden. Some of the custom islands are paid advertising. Clicking the show/hide bars || renders the columns - zooming out results in the view that we used to experience under 7.5.8. As soon as a function is selected - poof the columns are gone.

Can the system be configured to show the columns by default (even on small format devices) but allow the user to select to hide the columns?

Thanks in advance.

Best regards,
Keith

The responsive layout of UBB.threads v7.5 hides sidebars for mobile users as it takes up the limited realestate to be classified as a "mobile property"; if you're not wanting to operate with a responsive layout you can disable responsive mode by disabling the viewport (CP -> Master Settings -> Primary -> Basic Tab -> Advanced Settings -> "Disable Viewport").

Disable Viewport
This will disable the viewport. The viewport element allows your forums to conform to devices with smaller screens, such as smartphones and tablets.

Checking this is recommended with any of the following scenarios:
• If your forums have non-responsive layout elements, such as in the header, footer, islands.
• If you haven't got the time to convert your design to responsive yet.
• If you have no desire to use the responsive layout of UBB.threads.

Additionally, we have several threads on this, just use the search feature and look for "viewport"

In addition you may wish to allow members to turn off the side islands completely in their preferences. be it just the right and or the left column. Your choice.
that would be cp>portal & islands>Portal
Allow Members To Turn Off The Left Column
Allow Members To Turn Off The Right Column

Even though it says portal it impacts all views
They will get a extra option in their preference setting on the ones you enable.
