I am running 7.7.4. I have Captcha running on the registration screen and it's working fine. Can Captcha be implemented on any other panels?

The reason I am asking is that my ubbt_ONLINE file is filling up with the 14400 max number of records. I run a script every hour via cron to truncate the table. About 1000-2000 new records are added per hour.

  • What is the purpose of the table? I haven't yet seen any problems due to truncating the table every hour.
  • It is apparently bots that are trying to access the ubbThreads system repeatedly, I am seeing a lot of IPs in ubbt_ONLINE from Russia, China, Thailand and other countries where I have no clients. Is there someplace else I can activate Captcha to stop the bot access? I don't know where they are entering the system.

This is fixed in v8 as well as via this post

It is the Who's Online database, it tracks who is where and where traffic is originating.

Any ping to the system will be logged there, it's triggered for every visitor to the forums.

UBB.threads does not limit data, these are generally search engine crawlers or pings from bots. If you want to limit traffic to your site from abusive bots and AI then I'd recommend utilizing a Content Delivery Network such as CloudFlare.

I do have a migration to v8 on my schedule. I need to investigate system requirements to make sure my server can handle it.

My Who's Online Timeframe is set tp 10 minutes. I never see the number of rows in the ubbt_ONLINE table decrease. Are rows automatically removed after 10 minutes?

Thanks for your support in this forum. I've been helped by you for many years.

I just checked the ubbt_ONLINE table. It has 699 rows. But the Who's Online Now section in the forum says: 0 members (), 73 guests, and 0 robots. I would think those numbers would be closer together.

Two minutes later there were 728 rows and the Who's Online Now still showed 73 guests after refreshing the page.
