I restarted my Windows 2000 dedicated server this morning, and afterwards, ubb.threads 6.3.1 wouldn't work. When I log onto the server remotely, I can see that MySQL is 'stopped' and I get an error when I try to start it up. When I check the log, it says something about 'error group 11' and then it aborts. Is this a problem with my databases? Can I fix them? If I did try to do a backup, how do I do it if I can't even log into ubb.threads? I also have a MySQL database that phpAdsNew uses and am not sure how that might be affecting this...
I would appreciate any advice or ideas on what to do next. I got by installing this stuff, but don't really know enough to troubleshoot anything :-<
In ubb.threads, I get these errors:
Warning: mysql_connect(): Can't connect to MySQL server on '127.0.0.1' (10061) in d:\mywebsite\ubbthreads\mysql.inc.php on line 35 SQL ERROR: Database error only visible to forum administrators

Warning: mysql_query(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL-Link resource in d:\mywebsite\ubbthreads\mysql.inc.php on line 105 SQL ERROR: Database error only visible to forum administrators

I'm not sure if this helps, but when I use phpMyAdmin, I get this error:
Error MySQL said: Can't connect to MySQL server on 'localhost' (10061)

Have you manually tried starting MySQL? I don't know how to do this on Windows, but if MySQL isn't running, nothing's going to work.

Yes. I have tried to restart MySQL, but I get an error. I didn't know if it wasn't starting up because the databases are corrupted or because of some other issue.
The mysql error log says:
MySQL: Got signal 11. Aborting.

Yeah, I think the biggest issue is that it doesn't seem to be running at all (the MySQL service). I don't thinkt hat would happen from a corrupt database - otherwise you could use PHPMyAdmin to repair it.

Thats good to know I guess. Hopefully that means when I get this sorted out that my databases are okay.
One other question, how do I turn ubb.threads off if I can't access my admin controls?

Not sure what you mean by "turning it off". You can "close it" but if MySQL is hosed - it won't really matter - it'll be all errors whatever you do.
You can manually edit the config.inc.php with a text editor if you need to alter threads settings.

Yes that is what I discovered.
One last thing, I have someone working on getting MySQL going again. I installed MySQL again, but it still wasn't working. I am thinking that I might have to do a clean install, so that it creates a new data folder and mysql database. If I do that, can I just copy my ubb database folder from the old data folder to the new one. Will that work? Or will I have to do something extra to get ubb working again?

Just to close this up. The mysql database was corrupt. I had a friend of a friend who knows how to do this stuff do a clean install of mysql (I think that when I installed it over the previous one, it didn't create a new mysql database or something). He was then able to import the mysql database for ubb.threads back in and got everything working again. I'm not sure about the details of what he did, but it worked.
Yeah! And I was just about to order eve...

Good idea! <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> Glad you got it working.
I'll also add another thought with regard to my above post.
In 6.5 there are "clean error messages". Meaning if MySQL is hosed, a clean error is presented to the user - and the MySQL errors are surpressed. <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
